Dominican Divers

Dominican Divers is situated in the Bavaro region of the Dominican Republic, a location that provides easy access to a variety of marine environments. The area is defined by its diversity, offering everything from shallow coral gardens and sandy reef flats to deep wrecks and complex cave systems.

From the Atlantic side near Punta Cana to the Caribbean waters around Bayahibe, the centre facilitates access to a wide array of dive sites. You can choose between local reef dives or longer excursions to islands like Saona and Catalina, depending on whether you are looking for a short outing or a full day on the water.

The centre is affiliated with both PADI and IANTD, allowing them to cater to both recreational and technical diving communities. They provide training for a broad spectrum of divers, ranging from those taking their very first breaths underwater to professional candidates working towards their Divemaster or Instructor Development Course (IDC).

Their curriculum is extensive, covering recreational specialties, advanced wreck and deep diving, and technical sidemount and cave diving. For those looking to move into the professional realm, the centre supports the full progression through to instructor level.

The training programme covers the entire PADI and IANTD spectrum. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving, Bubblemaker, or the Scuba Diver course, progressing through to Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver.

For more experienced divers, the centre offers Rescue Diver and Divemaster training, as well as the Instructor Development Course (IDC). Technical training is a core component, with courses available in Nitrox, Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, Cavern Diver, Intro to Cave, full Cave Diver, Tec Sidemount, and Sidemount Diver.

For those not travelling with their own kit, the centre offers full equipment hire. They specifically provide XDEEP ZEOS equipment, which is available for use to enhance comfort and safety during your dives.

Logistics are handled with hotel pick-ups included for local dives in the Punta Cana area. For excursions to Bayahibe, Catalina, or Saona, additional transport is organised to ensure you reach the dive sites efficiently.

The reefs are home to a steady variety of pelagics and reef fish. You can expect to encounter great barracuda, groupers, yellowtail snappers, and gilthead seabream patrolling the structures. Large schools of Atlantic jacks also frequent the area.

For those interested in macro life and smaller inhabitants, the sites offer plenty of interest. Look out for octopuses, squid, crabs, and seahorses amongst the coral, as well as pufferfish and various species of moray eels.

Sea turtles are a common sight across many of the local reefs. You may encounter hawksbill turtles, leatherback turtles, and green sea turtles while exploring the seagrass or reef edges.

The larger residents include nurse sharks and reef sharks, which are often found in the calmer waters. You might also spot eagle rays and stingrays cruising along the sandy bottom or near the reef flats.

Diving in the region is subject to varying conditions depending on the specific site. While many reef sites are relatively calm, certain wreck sites such as the Enriquillo RM-22 and the Astron Wreck are known for having strong currents.

Cave diving sites, such as Toro Cave, involve navigating through tunnels and haloclines, with some areas containing large air pockets that may not be breathable.
