Lanj Karayib

Located on the Côte sous le Vent in Guadeloupe, Lanj Karayib is situated in the village of Bouillante, just a few minutes from the famous Réserve Cousteau and the Îlets Pigeon. The centre is positioned directly opposite the departure pontoon, making access straightforward for divers arriving by land.

This is a professional diving hub that balances a family-oriented atmosphere with high-level technical capabilities. Whether you are looking for a relaxed reef exploration or more demanding technical training, the centre is designed to support a wide variety of diving profiles in one of the most biodiverse regions of the Antilles.

The team consists of three instructors capable of guiding you through a diverse range of programmes. They manage everything from introductory dives to advanced technical courses, ensuring that both novices and experienced divers are well-supported on the water.

Beyond standard instruction, the centre is committed to marine conservation as a partner of Longitude 181. This environmental focus is integrated into their operations, reflecting the importance of protecting the local ecosystems they explore daily.

Lanj Karayib offers a comprehensive curriculum through both PADI and FFESSM affiliations. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving or the Open Water Diver course, with subsequent levels including Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver. The centre also provides specialty training such as the PADI Deep Diver specialty.

For more advanced divers, the centre offers technical training and the Bathysmed method, which focuses on deep relaxation and revitalisation. The course catalogue also includes Nitrox and Nitrox confirmed certifications, as well as various FFESSM levels such as N1, N2, N3, and technical modules like PE12, PE20, PE40, and PE60.

The centre operates the Zeppelin 7.50 XVPRO, a modern and comfortable vessel designed for local excursions. The boat provides a stable platform for accessing the surrounding dive sites, including the Réserve Cousteau and the offshore reefs.

On board, you will find provisions including water and snacks to keep you refreshed between dives. The vessel is also equipped to handle night dives, allowing for excursions when the nocturnal marine life is most active.

The shore-based facilities have been fully renovated to provide a comfortable experience for divers. You will find dedicated changing rooms, hot showers, and a reception area to relax in after your sessions. The centre also features a dedicated classroom for theoretical instruction and a terrace where you can unwind.

For those looking to dive without carrying their own kit, a full range of equipment is available for hire. The centre maintains a partnership with Scubapro, ensuring that the kit provided meets high standards of reliability and performance.

The reefs around Bouillante are a vibrant tapestry of life, dominated by diverse corals, black gorgonians, and various sponges (Porifera). You will find a wealth of tropical fish and reef fish navigating through the structures, including angelfish (Pomacanthidae) and various species of snapper (Lutjanidae).

Large pelagics and resident species frequently visit the sites, with sightings of jack (Carangidae), barracuda (Sphyraena), and various types of grouper. You can also observe oceanic triggerfish (Balistidae) and the occasional nurse shark patrolling the reef.

For those interested in macro life and more specific encounters, the area is home to moray eels (Muraenidae), lobsters (Homaridae), and various species of crabs (Brachyura). The presence of Hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) and other sea turtles adds to the spectacle of the local underwater environment.

Divers should be aware that conditions at Sec Pâté can be challenging, often characterised by strong currents and swell. This site is best suited to those with the appropriate experience and certification levels.

Night diving is a regular part of the centre's programme, with torches provided for these excursions. The proximity to the thermal springs of Bouillante also offers a unique way to relax after a day of diving in the Caribbean waters.
