Bouba Diving Centre

Bouba Diving Centre is situated directly on the Mourouk beach on the southeast coast of Rodrigues. This location provides immediate access to the island's vast lagoon, which remains one of the most pristine and well-preserved marine environments in the Indian Ocean.

Bouba Diving Centre offers a variety of training programmes. Beginners can start with a 'baptême de plongée' (discovery dive) to experience the underwater world in a controlled environment.

For those seeking formal certification, the centre provides 'niveaux de plongée' (diving levels) to help you progress through the standard stages of diver training.

For trips heading beyond the lagoon, the centre operates a twin-engine boat that allows for reliable offshore excursions. This vessel provides the necessary power to reach deeper sites and handle the open water conditions found further from the reef.

For simpler outings or local lagoon dives, a single barque is also available. This can be used for straightforward trips, including returns by sail.

The centre provides a full range of Scubapro equipment for hire, including BCDs, regulators, wetsuits in various sizes, fins, and masks. This ensures that you can arrive with minimal kit and still dive with reliable, well-maintained gear.

Cylinders are provided in 12-litre short steel versions and 13.5-litre versions, all filled to 232 bar. The equipment is regularly inspected to maintain safety standards for all dives.

The reefs are home to a diverse array of fish, including schools of trevallies, jacks, and carangues. You will often see parrotfish (Calotomus), triggerfish, and various species of fusiliers (Caesio) moving through the water.

Predators such as grey sharks, great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda), and dogtooth tuna are part of the local ecosystem. You may also encounter tuna and various species of snapper.

Macro life and smaller residents include octopus, scorpionfish, and various species of anemones. For those looking for crustaceans, spiny lobster (Palinuridae) can be found amongst the reef structures.

The seabed and reef structures are adorned with corals, including large tabular coral fields and rose-shaped coral formations. You will also find sea anemones and various species of angelfish and butterflyfish inhabiting the reef.

Diving at the offshore sites is highly dependent on the swell. Sites like Neptune are specifically noted as being subject to swell, which may affect accessibility.

Some sites, such as Couzoupa, involve drift diving that follows the tidal current, typically lasting around 50 minutes between depths of 15 and 20 metres. Castel Rock also features currents that move unicornfish along the wall.
