English, French and Russian are spoken by the hotel team, so you can deal with the practicalities of your stay without resorting to underwater hand signals at reception. Le Duc de Praslin is a substantial beachfront hotel built around gardens, restaurants, pools and a broad choice of rooms, suites and villas. It suits couples who want the beach and a proper evening meal close at hand, but family accommodation is part of the picture too.

The tone changes with the hour. Mornings belong to the beach and the garden; later, you can move between the pool, the spa and the restaurants without needing another plan. On Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, live DJs, evening entertainment and beach events bring more life to the property. If you prefer your evenings with a drink and a book, the gardens and beach loungers offer a quieter alternative to the music.

You are in Baie Sainte Anne, Seychelles, on Anse Volbert at Côte d’Or. The hotel has direct access to a white-sand beach stretching for 2 kilometres, with sun loungers beneath the palms. The water is calm and shallow, which is useful for families and for anyone who would rather ease into the afternoon than launch straight into another expedition.

The setting keeps useful places within reach. Restaurants and boat taxis are walkable, while the Praslin Museum is about 0.7 miles away. Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve is about 1.1 miles away, and Anse Lazio is under 2.5 miles from the hotel. Praslin Island Airport is 3.3 miles away; inter-island transfer is available, and the hotel can arrange car hire, bicycle hire and shuttle services.

The room choice is unusually broad, so the useful question is not simply how much space you want. For two people, the Ocean Rooms are reserved for adults aged 16 and over, while the Honeymoon Suite is designed for two adults. Both give you a super-king-size bed; the rooms and suites also bring air conditioning, a terrace or balcony, a flat-screen TV, tea- and coffee-making facilities and a private bathroom.

Travelling with family or friends changes the calculation. The Family Suite is the straightforward option for a group, while Villa 180, Villa 270 and the four-bedroom 360 Luxury Villa are aimed at people who want several separate sleeping areas and more room to spread out. The larger apartments include a kitchen, and the private villas come with their own pools. That means you can choose between a compact base for two and a self-contained arrangement where nobody has to negotiate over the last chair after a long day outside.

Air conditioning matters when you return warm, salty and ready to stop moving. A ceiling fan is also available, along with a seating area, desk, wardrobe and minibar; the room includes the basics for cooling down, making a hot drink and getting your kit of ordinary holiday belongings out of the way. Daily housekeeping, WiFi throughout the hotel and room service add a little practicality, while bathrobes, slippers, towels and toiletries keep the bathroom side of the operation simple.

Breakfast is a buffet at Le Dauphin Restaurant, the main dining room, where the evening buffet brings together Creole dishes from the Seychelles and international classics. The restaurant sits in an air-conditioned setting surrounded by water, fishponds, flowers and plants. Dinner is chic-casual rather than formal enough to require a suitcase full of shoes, although breakfast remains relaxed.

For lunch or dinner, Café des Arts sits directly on the beach and concentrates on seafood and more elaborate dishes. Daytime dining is relaxed; the evening setting becomes smarter. Vegetarian, vegan, kosher and halal options are available, with kosher wine also offered. There are three restaurants at the hotel, although the two named dining rooms do most of the useful explaining.

There are four named bars, each with a different job. Blue Octopus is the beach bar for cocktails, draught beer, live sport and DJs on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Mojito Bar is its sandy-footed companion for exotic cocktails and mocktails on those same evenings. Charcoal Bar, beside the main pool, covers coffee and cocktails throughout the day and an aperitif later on. Chill Out Tapas Lounge Bar is reserved for special evenings, usually once a month, with beers, wines, cocktails and tapas.

Four pools give you several ways to spend a non-diving morning. The main outdoor pool sits beside Charcoal Bar, while Villa 180, Villa 270 and the 360 Luxury Villa each have a private pool; Villa 270 also has an infinity pool with a separate paddling pool, and the 360 Luxury Villa adds an infinity pool and an aerotherapy pool. For the simplest option, walk to the beach, take a lounger and let the tide do the scheduling.

Elodia Spa occupies a rooftop pavilion with four treatment rooms, an indoor relaxation area and a wet area with Jacuzzi. Treatments include massages, facials and body treatments, with Comfort Zone products and the local Belliche brand. The spa opens daily from 08:00 to 20:00 and treatments are booked in advance. After a run of dives, a massage or Jacuzzi is a more sensible ambition than pretending you will enjoy a heroic workout.

If you do want to move, the rooftop fitness centre is open around the clock and includes exercise bikes, treadmills, resistance machines, cross-trainers and free weights, with views towards the Café des Arts seafront. Yoga and meditation are available, alongside cycling, hiking, wildlife and cultural excursions, billiards, kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkelling, fishing and boat excursions. Some water activities and excursions carry an additional charge.

Check-in runs from 15:00 to 23:00 and check-out from 07:00 to 11:00. You need to show photo identification and a credit card at check-in, and the hotel needs your expected arrival time in advance. Cash is accepted as a payment method. The hotel can arrange inter-island transfers, car hire, bicycle hire and shuttle services, so the final part of the journey is something to organise before arrival rather than improvise after a flight.

Free private parking is available on site without reservation, and free WiFi covers the hotel. A concierge, tour desk, luggage storage and currency exchange are useful when the day involves boats, island visits or an awkward gap between check-out and departure. Children of any age are welcome. The main beach is calm and shallow, which makes it a practical choice when divers are travelling with non-diving family members.

The hotel’s environmental work is built around equipment and systems rather than a slogan on the wall. Solar panels, a solar hot-water system, LED lighting and inverter air-conditioning units reduce energy use, while a key-card system is designed to cut consumption. A 65 kW photovoltaic installation is in place, with expansion planned, and the hotel uses R32 gas in its refrigeration systems.

Water is treated as a resource worth keeping. Rainwater collection provides storage capacity of more than 100,000 litres, and a biological wastewater treatment plant is part of the site’s infrastructure. High-speed washing machines reduce reliance on tumble dryers. The hotel also employs more than half of its staff locally and sponsors the Côte d’Or football club, linking its operation to the surrounding community as well as to the beach in front of it.
