Hotel Omorika

English is spoken by the hotel team, alongside Croatian, Italian and German, so you can deal with the practicalities without resorting to underwater sign language. Hotel Omorika is a three-star hotel with 83 accommodation units, set among Mediterranean vegetation near the coast of Punat on the island of Krk.

The appeal is simple rather than theatrical. You have air conditioning for the return from a warm day by the water, a fridge for keeping drinks cold, Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and outdoor space in the form of a garden, terrace and sun terrace. Families have room options designed around shared occupancy, while couples can keep things uncomplicated with a double room and a large bed.

The address is Frankopanska 7 in Punat, Croatia, on the south-western part of Krk. Punat sits in one of the Adriatic's more protected bays, with the town backed by the island's Mediterranean landscape rather than a dense urban strip. The hotel is around 100 metres from the beach, with direct access.

Pila Beach is about 300 metres away, while Punta Debij Beach is around 0.6 miles from the hotel. You also have a useful cluster of places to eat and drink nearby: Bistro Mirta is roughly 0.2 miles away, and Coko plaza Punat is about 0.3 miles away. Krk Town Square and the historic centre of Krk are around 5 miles away, with Krk Fortress and Kaštel close by.

The room choice matters here mainly because the layouts are quite different. For a couple, the Double Room keeps the evening routine simple, with a large bed and enough room to avoid feeling as though the furniture has been packed by a particularly optimistic suitcase designer. For a family, the Small Family Room uses a large bed and bunk bed, making it the more practical option for sharing without turning the sleeping arrangements into a daily negotiation.

A Triple Room follows the same family logic, with a double bed and bunk bed. Sea or park views vary by room, so the outlook is worth checking when you choose. Every room has air conditioning, a fridge, satellite television, a telephone and a private bathroom with a shower and hairdryer. After salt, sun and a full day outside, that combination covers the basics properly.

Non-smoking rooms and a lift make the building easier to use, while the private bathroom, towels and bed linen are already part of the setup. Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, giving you somewhere to sort photographs, check the next day's plans or simply ignore both until morning.

Breakfast is served as a buffet, which suits the diving timetable better than a precious little plate that leaves you hunting for toast an hour later. Lunch and dinner are also available at the hotel's restaurant, with a choice between Mediterranean and international cooking.

The restaurant works in two settings: indoors and on the terrace. Its food offer includes local dishes and traditional Mediterranean recipes, alongside an à la carte selection and a pension buffet restaurant. You can therefore keep meals familiar when that is what the day calls for, or use dinner to explore the local side of the island without having to leave the hotel.

There is a bar and an on-site coffee house for the less ambitious part of the evening. Around the hotel, you also have cafés, pastry shops, gift shops and several restaurants, so you are not tied to the same table every night. That is useful after a week of repeating the same dive briefing and pretending not to mind.

The beach is the main extra space here. You can hire sun loungers and parasols, settle in with a book or take the more active route with beach volleyball, water slides and miniature golf. Windsurfing, fishing and boat excursions are available in the surrounding area, giving you options for a non-diving day that do not require a complicated expedition.

For a slower afternoon, the hotel's garden, terrace and sun terrace give you somewhere to sit without having to organise anything. There is also a children's playground, children’s activities and excursions to the island of Košljun, which gives families and mixed-interest groups something concrete to do while the divers are discussing the previous dive for the fourth time.

Cultural excursions are part of the offer, and the island gives you plenty of nearby reference points, including Krk Fortress, historic Kaštel and the old centre of Krk. If walking is not the plan, the beach, coffee house and terrace keep the day pleasantly low-effort. Sometimes the correct post-dive activity is a chair.

Rijeka Airport is around 13 miles from the hotel, with the road journey covering about 18 miles. Private parking is available on site and does not require a reservation, which is useful if you are arriving with dive bags and more luggage than the airline's cabin allowance ever intended. An electric vehicle charger is also available.

Check-in runs from 14:00 to midnight, while check-out is from 07:00 to 10:00. The front desk operates around the clock, and luggage storage is available if your travel times do not line up neatly with the room. Packed lunches can also be arranged for days when the shore, boat or island has your attention before the restaurant does.

Children of any age are welcome. Children aged three and over are treated as adults for the accommodation arrangements; cots are available on request for children aged up to two, while extra beds are not available. Pets are welcome. Payment can be made in cash, Visa or Mastercard.
