English, German and Russian are spoken by the hotel team, so you can deal with the practicalities of a diving holiday without playing international charades at reception. Golden Bay Beach Hotel is a substantial beachfront resort in Larnaka, built for days that move from sea to pool, from dinner to a quiet drink, and back to a properly air-conditioned room.

You get direct access to a sandy private beach, landscaped gardens and a broad choice of places to eat and sit. It is the sort of address that works particularly well when diving is important but not the only item on the agenda: you can start the day at the breakfast buffet, spend the afternoon by the water, and still have a pub, a spa or a formal dinner waiting when you are done.

You are on the seafront at Larnaka, Cyprus, with direct access to a sandy private beach. Sun loungers and parasols are set up for beach time, while the hotel gardens keep the immediate surroundings softer than a purely urban address.

Larnaka centre is about 6 miles away by road. Finikoudes Beach, Europe Square and the Finikoudes Promenade are all around 5 miles away, with Larnaka Medieval Castle and Saint Lazarus Square roughly 5 miles from the hotel as well. For a change of scenery, Larnaca Salt Lake is about 7 miles away, and Cyherbia Botanical Park about 8 miles away.

You can still reach cafés and bars without heading into the centre: Modo Bar is about 1.5 miles away. The hotel also has free on-site parking, car hire, a tour desk and a currency exchange, which is useful if you prefer to make your own way around Cyprus rather than wait for a timetable to organise your holiday.

Every room has air conditioning, a minibar, satellite television, a private bathroom, slippers, a bathrobe, a hairdryer and a balcony or terrace in the accommodation categories that include one. Free Wi-Fi covers the hotel, and daily housekeeping means you can leave the day's salt and sand outside the room rather than turning your bedroom into a gear cupboard.

For two people, the Standard Side Sea View Room or the Double Room with Pool and Sea View keeps things straightforward, with a super-king bed and a view that gives you something better to look at than a car park. The Superior King Room can accommodate up to three people, while the Junior Suite with Private Outdoor Hot Tub gives a small group more breathing room and a private place to soak. The Grand Suite is the more spacious choice for a couple who want a separate suite-style layout rather than simply a larger bedroom.

Soundproof rooms are available, and air conditioning matters here: after warm water, a hot deck and several hours in the sun, a cool room is not a decorative feature. Room service runs around the clock, so you can keep the evening simple when dinner out feels like an expedition. Children of any age are welcome, although there are no extra beds; cots are available on request and depend on the selected room.

Breakfast is a buffet, with a continental selection served from 07:00. The Yacht Club Restaurant is the natural morning starting point, with breakfast overlooking the sea, and it also serves lunch and dinner. If you return hungry from the water, Thalassa handles lunch with buffet salads, meat, fish and pasta, plus an à la carte menu with vegetarian choices.

Dinner gives you several different moods rather than one large dining room doing everything. To Petrino Tavern works with local cuisine in a setting inspired by a Byzantine castle courtyard. Les Etoile’s Restaurant turns towards French and Italian haute cuisine with Near Eastern and Oriental influences, and formal attire is required there. It opens only for special events, occasions, festivities, banquets and conferences, so it is not the place to assume you can wander in wearing the clothes that survived the dive boat.

There are two bars. The Pool Bar serves light snacks and refreshing drinks during the summer period, while Shakespeare’s Pub offers beer in an Elizabethan-style setting. The Cocktail Lounge Bar adds exotic drinks, light snacks and desserts, and room service is available 24 hours. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are available; with half-board or full-board arrangements, drinks are not included.

The lagoon-style outdoor pool is surrounded by lawns and tropical planting, with a sun terrace, loungers and parasols for the days when you want water without a wetsuit. There is also an indoor pool heated during the winter months, with an integrated Jacuzzi. A separate outdoor pool has a water slide, so the resort can accommodate both quiet pool time and a rather more energetic version of it.

The Golden Bay Spa by Cavo D’ Oro offers massages, facials, body treatments, a hammam, sauna and Jacuzzi, with a relaxation lounge for the part of the day when conversation becomes an unnecessary sport. Couples' massages are available, as are foot, back, neck, head, hand and full-body treatments. The fitness centre gives you somewhere to stretch out properly after several days of finning, and two outdoor artificial-grass tennis courts offer a more competitive alternative.

You can also play table tennis, billiards or darts, or use the games room. Live music and evening entertainment provide something to do without requiring another change of clothes. Families have a kids' club for children aged 3 to 12, indoor and outdoor play areas, a playground and childcare services.

Larnaca International Airport is about 9 miles away, or roughly 15 km, with the journey by car taking around 19 minutes. An airport transfer service is available through the hotel, in private or shared form, and should be arranged with the hotel. Ercan Airport is about 14 miles away, with a journey of around 45 minutes by car.

Check-in starts at 14:00 and check-out runs until 12:00. You should give the hotel your expected arrival time in advance, particularly if your flight lands late. The front desk is open 24 hours, with luggage storage, lockers and a concierge service available for the practical edges of the trip.

Free public parking is available on site without reservation, and there is an electric-vehicle charging station. Car hire, laundry, ironing and dry-cleaning services are available, while the business centre and meeting facilities cover the occasions when work has followed you to Cyprus. Pets are allowed on request. Cash is accepted, and you should bring the card used for the reservation at check-in.
