Abyss Dive Centre

Abyss Dive Centre is a PADI 5 Star dive centre located on the main coastal road in the Coral Bay area of Paphos, Cyprus. Managed by local divers since 1998, the centre has built a reputation for safety and professional service over its 26 years of operation.

The region is defined by its generous sunshine and warm Mediterranean waters. During the summer, the sea temperature reaches up to 30°C, providing an ideal environment for long dives. Underwater visibility is typically excellent, often ranging between 20 and 30 metres.

The centre maintains a high standard of safety, boasting 20 years of accident-free diving. To ensure close supervision and high instructional standards, the team operates with a maximum ratio of two divers per guide.

Training is available for all ages and levels, including the PADI Bubblemaker course for children. For those looking to turn a passion into a career, the centre offers comprehensive internship programmes ranging from entry-level divers to Divemaster candidates, with accommodation provided for those on internship tracks.

The course catalogue covers the full spectrum of PADI certifications. Beginners can start with the PADI Discover Scuba Diving programme or the PADI Scuba Diver course, progressing through to Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver.

For more experienced divers, the centre offers the PADI Rescue Diver course and professional training up to the level of Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, and EFR Instructor. They also provide a dedicated range of PADI specialties and a full suite of freediving courses, including PADI Freediver, Advanced Freediver, and Master Freediver.

The centre is fully equipped for both recreational and professional divers. A complete range of rental kit is available on-site, and the facility provides cylinder filling services up to 300 bar.

Nitrox is available for divers looking to extend their bottom times. For those interested in professional development or specialised skills, the centre also offers various PADI specialties and freediving courses.

The local reefs are home to a diverse array of Mediterranean life. You will regularly encounter various fish species, including Grouper (Epinephelus), Sea bream (Sparidae), and many species of wrasse. Large schools of fish and almaco jacks are common, alongside damselfish (Pomacentridae), triggerfish (Balistidae), and John Dory (Zeus faber).

Macro life and crustaceans add significant interest to the seabed. Keep an eye out for octopuses (Octopus vulgaris), cuttlefish (Sepiidae), and slipper lobster. You may also spot various nudibranchs, such as the spotted nudibranch, and different species of jellyfish.

In the sandy areas and around the reefs, you can find rays, bull rays, and various species of flounder. Larger predators like barracudas, including the Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda), and moray eels (Muraenidae) are also present. During certain times of the year, you may be lucky enough to see turtles, including the Loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) and the Green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), especially near Lara Bay.

The best time to visit the Paphos region is during the summer months. The water remains warm and the visibility is at its most consistent during this period.
