Coral Bay Divers

Coral Bay Divers is situated in Pegeia, near Paphos, serving as a primary hub for both recreational and professional diving in Cyprus. As the only PADI 5 Star Career Development Centre on the island, it is specifically geared towards those looking to progress through the PADI ranks, from Divemaster to Instructor.

The centre provides access to a diverse range of underwater environments, from shallow reef flats and natural amphitheatres to deep, complex wrecks. Whether you are looking for a shore dive near the centre or a full-day boat excursion to the western coast, the local topography offers something for every level of experience.

The team is led by Jurg Dahler, a PADI Course Director with experience dating back to 1994, and Ryan Cummisky, a PADI Master Instructor with extensive local knowledge. This professional backbone ensures that the high standards required for career development courses are maintained.

Instructional capabilities extend far beyond standard recreational courses. The centre is equipped to handle technical training, including Tec 40, 45, and 50, as well as instructor development programmes. They also provide specialised training for adaptive support divers, ensuring that diving is accessible to those with different mobility needs.

The course catalogue is exhaustive, covering the entire PADI progression. You can begin with Discover Scuba Diving or Bubblemaker and work through to Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, and Rescue Diver. For those pursuing a career, the centre offers Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, and the full Instructor Development Course (IDC).

Technical diving is a significant focus here, with specific programmes for Tec 40, Tec 45, and Tec 50, alongside Discover Technical Diving. Specialty courses are also widely available, ranging from Deep Diver and Wreck Diver to Sidemount Diver, Drift Diver, and Full Face Mask Diver. Emergency response training is integrated through EFR Primary & Secondary Care and specialized instructor training.

The centre is fully equipped for rental, providing a complete range of kit for divers who do not wish to travel with their own equipment. This includes regulators, BCDs, and wetsuits.

For those looking to extend their bottom time or dive deeper, Nitrox is available on-site. The training facilities include spacious, air-conditioned classrooms equipped with digital technology to support interactive learning during theory sessions.

The local waters are home to a variety of large pelagics and familiar reef residents. You can regularly encounter groupers (Epinephelus), sea bream (Sparidae), and various wrasse species. Large schools of fish, including sea bream and amberjack (Seriola), move through the area, often accompanied by resident turtles such as the Loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) and Green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas).

Macro life and smaller organisms add significant interest to the reefs and wrecks. Divers often spot nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani) and various species of octopus (Octopus vulgaris). You may also find trumpetfish (Aulostomidae), damselfish (Pomacentridae), and small crabs or shrimp tucked into the rockwork.

On the wrecks and around the rocky reefs, look out for moray eels (Muraenidae), lionfish, and various species of triggerfish (Balistidae). The presence of nudibranchs and different types of wrasse makes the smaller crevices a constant point of interest for observant divers.

Diving in the Paphos region involves a mix of shore-based entries and boat excursions. While many sites like Cynthiana Beach are easily accessible from the shore, others require travel to the western coast or trips out to the offshore wrecks.
