Located in the heart of Chania, Blue Adventures Diving has been a fixture of the Cretan diving scene since 1993. With two bases—one in the Chania Old Harbour and another in Marathi—the centre is ideally positioned to access the diverse underwater topography of the Akrotiri Peninsula.

The area is defined by its dramatic geological history, offering everything from vast Posidonia seagrass meadows to complex cavern systems. Divers can expect a variety of environments, including vertical walls and partially submerged caves that showcase the unique character of the Mediterranean.

As a PADI Five Star Instructor Development Center, the team provides a high level of professional instruction for all certification levels. The centre focuses on small groups, with dive leaders and instructors adapting the experience to the specific skill levels of the buddy pairs in the water.

Safety and environmental stewardship are central to their operation. The team incorporates marine conservation awareness into their programmes and organises underwater clean-up events to protect the local ecosystems they explore.

The training catalogue is extensive, covering the full PADI progression from Open Water Diver and Scuba Diver through to Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver. For those looking to turn professional, the centre offers the PADI Divemaster programme.

Specialised training is also available to refine specific skills, including PADI Deep Diver, Enriched Air (Nitrox), Peak Performance Buoyancy, and Underwater Navigator. They also offer niche courses such as Search & Recovery, Underwater Photography, and Night Diver, alongside the ReActivate program for those returning to the water.

The centre utilises fast RHIB boats to reach dive sites quickly, ensuring you spend more time in the water and less time in transit. These vessels are used for boat dives, night dives, and special excursions to the cave systems around the peninsula.

A full range of rental equipment is available on-site, allowing you to dive with your own preferred kit or use well-maintained centre stock. For those looking to extend their bottom time, Nitrox is available for use.

The centre also maintains a retail shop in the Chania Old Harbour, providing a convenient point for divers to pick up essentials or browse diving equipment.

The marine life around Chania is diverse, with the seagrass meadows of Maherida supporting a healthy ecosystem of fish, sponges, and shells. In the cavernous areas, you will encounter octopus (Octopus vulgaris), moray eels (Muraenidae), sea bream (Sparidae), and wrasse (Labridae).

Macro life enthusiasts can look for nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani), starfish (Asteroidea), and various sea urchins. Scorpion fish and other small crustaceans are frequently found amongst the rock formations and cave entrances.

Depending on the season, you may also encounter larger species. While most marine life is present year-round, sightings of loggerhead sea turtles, dolphins, and larger pelagic fish occur occasionally.

Diving in this region is best experienced from April to November. The waters are generally characterised by calm seas and minimal currents, making it a reliable location for both cavern exploration and reef diving.

Visibility is typically excellent, ranging from 13 to 40 metres depending on the specific site and seasonal conditions.
