Luna Holiday Complex is an apartment hotel in Mellieħa, built around the practical idea that not every meal needs to happen in a restaurant and not every evening needs a timetable. You get a serviced apartment with a kitchenette and living area, alongside pools, bars, restaurants and a small on-site market. It suits solo travellers, couples and families, particularly if you prefer room to spread out rather than a standard hotel room with nowhere to put anything down.

The English-language website makes planning straightforward before you travel. The complex has 170 serviced apartments, a 24-hour reception, car hire and tour booking services, so the useful arrangements can be handled under one roof. There is also a family-run character behind the property, with the Borg family still involved in its day-to-day running.

You are in Mellieħa, Malta, on Marfa Road beside Mellieħa Bay. Mellieħa Bay Beach is roughly 0.3 miles away on foot, while Ghadira Bay Beach is about 0.6 miles away. Santa Maria Estate Beach is around 0.5 miles away by road. This is a coastal base rather than a countryside hideaway, with the village of Mellieħa uphill and the sea close enough to make the walk back in damp clothes a realistic possibility.

The immediate area has restaurants within a short walk, including Ix-Xatba, Zeffirino and Beagles. Starbucks is also nearby, while the Ghadira Nature Reserve is about 0.7 miles away. Bus stops are a few metres from the property, with routes towards the main parts of the Maltese islands, and the Gozo Ferry terminal is about 15 minutes away.

The useful distinction here is not simply the room name; it is how much living space you want once the day’s kit, clothes and sandy odds and ends have arrived back with you. A Standard Studio keeps things compact for one or two people, while a Superior Studio gives you more room without moving into apartment territory. Both use two single beds, with a sofa bed available among the room amenities.

For a couple who likes an actual sitting area, or for three people who do not want to live out of their bags, the larger apartment options make more sense. A Superior Family Apartment or Penthouse Suite gives you a separate living feel, a dining table and a proper kitchenette with a stovetop, oven, toaster, kettle, kitchenware and refrigerator. Every apartment has a balcony, air conditioning, a private bathroom, wardrobe space and a flat-screen television. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property, although the room description specifically places it in the lobby as well. Housekeeping takes place every four days, with towel changes every two days, so this is apartment-style living rather than a hotel room being reset around you every morning.

Self-catering is the basic arrangement, which gives you control over breakfast timing and the occasional post-dive meal that is more toast than culinary ambition. The kitchenette is properly set up for simple cooking, and the on-site Mini Market covers everyday provisions, with fresh bread and milk available daily. There are also vending machines for snacks and drinks, a coffee house, a snack bar and room service.

When cooking feels like one task too many, Twilight – Bar, Kitchen & Terrace serves buffet breakfast and dinner, with à la carte options as well, and also covers lunch. The breakfast buffet includes continental and Full English/Irish choices, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. Three bars give the evening a few different settings: Tonino Lounge Bar in the lobby, Twilight Pool Bar for food and refreshments around the family pool, and Sky Lounge on the roof for cocktails and 360-degree views. Sky Lounge & Pool is for adults aged 17 and over, so it is the obvious place when you want a drink without a children’s soundtrack.

Three pools cover different moods. Sky Lounge & Pool is an adults-only rooftop pool with panoramic views, cocktails, four-poster beds and a Jacuzzi in the VIP area. Twilight Family Pool has a shallow section for younger children and its own pool bar, while the heated indoor pool takes over from late October to mid-May, weather permitting, with loungers for slower days.

FITGYM by Luna has cardio and weight machines, free weights and personal trainer support, and is available to residents without an extra charge. Beyond the property, reception can arrange tours and activities, including visits to Gozo, while walking, hiking and cycling options are available in the surrounding area. Entertainment runs twice a week, and the beach offers sand, loungers, umbrellas and a beach bar through the San Remo Beach Club partnership.

Malta International Airport is about 14 miles away by road, with a drive of roughly 25 minutes. An airport shuttle and other shuttle services can be arranged through the property, and car hire is available. The hotel sits on the main bus route, with public transport useful for reaching other parts of the island; reception also provides luggage storage, an ATM, a tour desk and concierge support.

Check-in starts at 15:00 and check-out runs from 00:30 to 11:00. You need photo identification and a payment card at check-in, and the property asks for your expected arrival time in advance. Smoking is not allowed and parties are not permitted. Children of any age are welcome; cots and extra beds can be requested, subject to the selected accommodation. Dogs up to 20 kg can stay in eligible Standard Studios, with one dog allowed per apartment. If you are planning a winter visit, building works are scheduled for Block 2 from 1 November 2026 to 30 April 2027; the gym is due to close temporarily from November until February 2027, while the rooftop pool follows its normal winter closure.

The hotel received Green Key certification in January 2025, recognising its commitment to sustainability. That gives the environmental policy a name and a framework, rather than leaving it as a vague promise on a wall.
