For a change of scene, Dubai International Airport is about 12 miles away by road and Sharjah International Airport about 11 miles away.

The standard rooms are a sensible choice for a couple: choose a super-king bed or twin beds, and look for the sea-view version if the view matters to you. Balconies, air-conditioning, a refrigerator and an electric kettle cover the basic post-dive routine rather well. The desk is there if you need to deal with messages or travel plans, though the more pressing job may be getting the salt off and finding something cold to drink.

The suites give you more breathing room than the standard categories, with sea-view options available and family rooms among the accommodation choices. A King Suite can suit a small group travelling together, while a Junior Suite is the more comfortable choice when you want extra space around the bed and bathroom rather than simply a place to sleep.

Lunch and dinner follow separate service periods, so this is not an all-day grazing arrangement; it is a more conventional restaurant schedule.

For lighter requirements, R Café serves snacks and made-to-order coffee from 8:00 to midnight. Waves Pool Bar covers the poolside part of the day with fresh juices, cold drinks and coffee, open from 10:00 to 22:00. The hotel does not serve alcohol, an important detail to know before you book rather than discover it when you are already unpacked.

When the plan is to do very little, the outdoor pool, sun terrace and private beach do the job without demanding a timetable. Sun loungers and parasols are available by the beach and pool, while the balcony gives you a quieter place to sit with a coffee and watch the light change over the Gulf.
