Port Sudan serves as a gateway to some of the most significant diving in the Red Sea. The area is defined by its dramatic reef systems and the sheer variety of life that thrives in these warm, saline waters.

The reefs around Port Sudan are home to an impressive array of larger species. You can expect to encounter various sharks, including Grey reef shark (Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos), White-tip reef sharks, Blacktip reef shark (Carcharhinus melanopterus), and Silky shark (Carcharhinus falciformis). Scalloped hammerhead sharks and Reef shark (Carcharhinus) are also part of the local ecosystem.

Schools of fish provide constant movement across the reef flats and walls. You will see large numbers of Jack (Carangidae), Snappers (Lutjanidae), Fusilier (Caesio), and spiny mackerel. These are often joined by the colourful presence of Parrotfish (Calotomus), Butterflyfish (Chaetodon), and schoolmaster snapper.

For those watching the blue, the area offers sightings of larger pelagics and rays. Manta ray (Mobula alfredi) and Eagle ray (Aetobatus) are sought after, alongside Dolphin (Delphinidae) sightings. Large predators like the leopard grouper and various giant groupers are also found patrolling the structures.

Macro life and smaller residents add detail to the seabed and crevices. You can find Moray eel (Muraenidae), Stonefish (Synanceia), and Leaf scorpionfish (Taenianotus triacanthus) tucked into the reef. Lobster (Homaridae), Sweetlips (Plectorhinchus), and Napoleon wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus) are also common residents of the local reefs.
