The reefs and wrecks of this region are teeming with life, ranging from large pelagics to delicate reef dwellers. You can expect to encounter Manta ray (Mobula alfredi), eagle rays, and various species of sharks, including Zambezi sharks, blacktip reef sharks, and bronze whaler sharks. During the months of July to September, bull sharks are also frequently sighted.

In the open water and around the major reefs, you will find swordfish, marlins, and various jacks. The presence of diverse ray species, including electric rays and butterfly rays, adds to the biological richness of the area.

The reef habitats are beautifully decorated with a variety of fixed life, including black coral trees, sea fans, whip corals, and various hard corals. Anemones, such as tiger and strawberry anemones, are also common sights among the rocky structures.

For those with an eye for detail, the macro life is exceptional. The area is home to a wide array of scorpionfish, frogfish, pipefish, and razorfish. You can also find various species of wrasse, damselfish, surgeonfish, and many types of anemones and crustaceans, including spiny lobster.

Diving in this region involves managing variable conditions, particularly on offshore sites. Currents can range from moderate to very strong, especially at sites like Coopers Light Wreck and the NO.1 Area, which may require advanced skills and the use of a deployment buoy.

Swell and wave action can also impact accessibility. Some sites, such as the Caves or the Ovington Court wreck, may become impracticable during heavy swell. Planning your dive around the tides is also important, particularly for shore entries on reefs like Vetchie's.
