Milele Beach Resort is a beachfront resort in Pingwe for divers who want the day to end simply: a room with air conditioning, a proper meal, a drink, and somewhere to sit without organising another expedition. The private beach area, garden, outdoor pool and shaded loungers keep the essentials close together. Nothing here requires a complicated itinerary once you are back on dry land.

Couples can keep things straightforward with a sea-view room and a super-king-size bed, while families have a larger suite designed for up to five guests. Children of any age are welcome, and babysitting, children's meals, outdoor play equipment and board games are available for family stays. A welcome kit awaits your arrival, which is a small detail, but more useful than another decorative slogan when you have just crossed half the planet.

You stay in Pingwe, Tanzania, directly on the beachfront. Michamvi Pingwe Beach is about 50 metres away, and the resort also has its own private beach area. Bwejuu Beach is around 0.8 miles away by road, while Michamvi Kae Beach is about 1.2 miles away. Paje Beach lies roughly 4.5 miles away, giving you a choice of coastal scenery without putting you in the middle of a busy town.

For food beyond the resort, Blue Dongwe Jetty is about 100 metres away by road. Door Restaurant is around 1.5 miles away, and Shells Restaurant about 2 miles away. The Sands Beach Resort is roughly 0.8 miles away. This is a coastal base rather than an urban one, so the resort restaurant matters at the end of a long dive day; fortunately, you can also arrange a car through the property when you want to explore further.

The room choice is mainly about how much space and privacy you want around your diving holiday. A King Room with Sea View suits a couple who want the bed and the horizon to do most of the work. The Bungalow with Sea View gives you more room for a small group, while the Family Suite is the sensible choice when several people need to live around the same luggage without stepping over one another. The Double Room with Patio keeps things more compact for two.

Air conditioning is available in the rooms, with a fan and mosquito net as well. That gives you practical control over the night after heat, salt and sun have had their turn. Certain rooms include a seating area, and all units have a desk, wardrobe or dressing room, private bathroom, kettle and extra-long beds. Balconies, patios or terraces add somewhere to sit outside, while pool or sea views help you decide whether the first look of the morning should be blue water or the pool.

There is room service, a minibar and daily housekeeping, with laundry available for the clothes that have taken a proper battering. Local and international cooking sit side by side here rather than forcing every evening into the same format.

There is one bar, along with a snack bar and an on-site coffee house. Fruit, wine and champagne are available, and outdoor dining gives you the option of eating in the open air. When appetite arrives before dinner, the snack bar and room service are more useful than pretending that a post-dive stomach runs on scenery alone.

The outdoor pool is the obvious place for a low-effort afternoon, with pool and beach towels, sun umbrellas and loungers available. The private beach area offers the other version of the same plan: find a chair, let the day slow down, and resist the urge to schedule every minute. A spa and wellness centre provides massages and treatments when your shoulders have had enough of carrying equipment.

There are a few options when sitting still becomes too ambitious. You can hire bicycles or join a bike tour, play billiards, watch live sport or catch live music and evening performances. Snorkelling, fishing and water sports are available on site, while game drives and pub crawls offer outings further from the resort. The arrangement works for couples travelling together when one wants activity and the other wants a lounger; both can still regroup over dinner.

For families, children's outdoor play equipment and board games provide something beyond the pool, and babysitting is available. The shared lounge and TV area give you an indoor fallback, while the garden and outdoor furniture keep the default setting outdoors. In other words, you can fill the afternoon, or make a respectable attempt at doing absolutely nothing.

Abeid Amani Karume International Airport is about 34 miles away, with the drive taking around 58 minutes by car. Airport transfers can be arranged through the resort, and a shuttle service is available. Car hire, a tour desk, currency exchange, luggage storage and a 24-hour front desk are also available, which is handy when arrival times and island roads refuse to behave like a Swiss railway timetable.

Check-in runs from 10:30 to 12:00, and check-out from 10:00 to 10:30. Your expected arrival time needs to be shared with the resort. Private and express check-in and check-out are available, and luggage storage helps if your room and flight times do not line up neatly.

Cash is accepted for payment. Private parking is available on site, with a reservation required. WiFi is free throughout the property, and the resort also offers room service, laundry and a safety deposit box. Pets are allowed on request, and smoking areas are designated. Extra beds and cots can be requested for children, subject to the accommodation option and availability.
