Happy Go Luckie Tours - Dive Center

Located near the Sittee River, just south of Hopkins Village, Happy Go Luckie Tours serves as a gateway to some of the most significant marine ecosystems in Belize. The centre operates out of boats situated on the river, providing easy access to the offshore reefs and atolls that define this coastline.

Whether you are looking to explore the vast South Water Caye Marine Reserve or venture further out to the remote atolls, the operation is built around customisation. You can choose between structured group dives or private outings tailored to your specific skill level and interests.

The centre is led by Troy 'Luckie' Nunez, a PADI instructor with over 3,000 dives, and co-founder Cheryl Rowland-Nunez. This depth of experience is central to their approach, ensuring that even novice divers feel supported.

Safety and attention are prioritised through strict diver-to-guide ratios, with a maximum of six divers per PADI Divemaster. For those joining group trips, boat capacities are limited to 10 people to maintain a comfortable environment on the water.

The centre is a PADI affiliated facility offering a range of certifications. You can begin your journey with the Open Water Diver course or return to the water with the 10-Year Refresher Re-Activate Course.

For those looking to maintain their skills, a basic refresher course is included with all dives. The centre also runs a Frequent Diver Club, which offers benefits after you have completed 10 dives or a certification course.

The fleet consists of three boats, including vessels with capacities of 10, 10, and 18 passengers. These boats are equipped with roofs to provide shade from the sun during the transit to the dive sites.

For full-day excursions, lunch and snacks are provided on board, along with water and juice. The boats also carry snorkeling equipment and fishing gear, and a cooler is available for your personal beverages.

For those needing to rent kit, the centre provides BCDs, regulators, and dive computers. You can also hire a GoPro to document your dives.

Standard dive kit, including masks, fins, wetsuits, and weights, is included in the dive packages. The centre also offers basic snorkeling lessons for those who are less confident swimmers.

The reefs are home to a diverse array of fish, including various species of Snappers (Lutjanidae) and angelfish. You will frequently encounter Grouper (Epinephelinae) and midnight parrotfish among the coral formations.

Larger pelagics and reef residents include sea turtles and various species of Parrotfish (Calotomus). In the more open areas of the atolls, you may spot large schools of fish in spawning aggregations.

Macro life and smaller inhabitants include various crustaceans and reef sharks (Carcharhinus). The ecosystem is supported by flourishing coral structures that provide habitat for the local marine community.

Diving trips to the outer atolls like Glover's Reef and Turneffe involve longer boat transits of up to two hours. Weather conditions are assessed every morning; while rain is common, electrical storms may lead to delays or the need to seek shelter.

In the event that weather conditions make diving unsafe, trips are either rescheduled or fully refunded.
