The Pirate Reef Dive Shop offers full kit hire for those not travelling with their own equipment. You can rent everything required for a dive, including regulators, BCDs, and fins. For night dives, torches are available to help you explore the pier and surrounding reefs after dark.

Shore-side facilities include dedicated areas for rinsing kit and preparing for your excursions. The resort itself provides a high standard of comfort with air-conditioned accommodation and various amenities to relax in between dives.

The reefs are teeming with life, particularly around the Gladden Spit and Silk Cayes. You will regularly encounter various species of rays (Batoidea), including southern stingrays, leopard rays, and rough-tail stingrays. Large turtles, including the Hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata), are common sights in the seagrass meadows and around the reef edges.

Pelagic life and larger predators add excitement to the dives, with Nurse shark (Ginglymostoma cirratum) and Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda) often present. You may also spot squid and octopus during your explorations, especially during night dives.

The reef itself is a colourful backdrop of hard and soft corals, providing a home for a vast array of fish. Look for snappers, Grouper (Epinephelus), Damselfish (Pomacentridae), tangs, Wrasse (Labridae), Parrotfish (Calotomus), and Angelfish (Pomacanthidae). Other frequent residents include surgeonfish, lionfish, and various species of reef fish.

Macro life and crustaceans are abundant throughout the area. Keep an eye out for Lobster (Homaridae), Crab (Brachyura), and other crustaceans hiding amongst the reef structure. Small details like arrow crabs and various species of reef fish make every inspection of the coral worthwhile.

The dive sites vary from shallow seagrass beds to deeper reef structures. Most excursions involve relatively short boat rides, with some sites located just 10 minutes away and others requiring a 40 to 50-minute transit.
