Live For Diving

Located in the Onna region of Okinawa, Live For Diving is a dedicated training centre for those looking to move beyond basic skills. The centre is run by Stefan Damm, a highly experienced instructor with eight years in the field, focusing on a pedagogical approach that prioritises technical proficiency over sheer volume.

The centre is led by Stefan Damm, a certified PADI, SDI, and SSI instructor. His approach is built around developing 'eal divers' by focusing on the fundamentals: neutral buoyancy, breathing control, trim, and efficient propulsion techniques. This ensures you develop habits that protect the reef ecosystems rather than damaging them.

You will benefit from a high level of personal attention, with a diver-to-guide ratio of 2:1, and a maximum of 4:1. To ensure you have ample time to practice these skills in a natural environment, the centre adds an extra dive to every training course offered.

The curriculum covers the full range of PADI certifications, starting from the PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience for beginners. For those progressing through their training, the centre offers the PADI Open Water Diver and PADI Advanced Open Water Diver courses.

For more experienced divers, specialized training is available through the PADI Rescue Diver, PADI Deep Diver, and PADI Nitrox Diver courses.

The centre provides high-quality rental equipment, specifically featuring Cressi MC9 balanced regulators and Cressi Aquawing BCDs. Because the instructor is also a Cressi maintenance technician, you can expect well-maintained kit.

For those looking to extend their bottom time, Nitrox is available on-site. The facility is designed for efficiency and professional standards, ensuring your cylinders are ready for the day ahead.

The reefs around Okinawa are home to a diverse array of marine life, including various colorful reef fish and triggerfish. You can regularly observe clownfish and sea turtles navigating the coral structures.

Larger pelagics are also part of the local ecosystem, with sightings of barracuda and sharks. You may also encounter grey reef sharks during your dives.

For those interested in macro life, the area provides plenty of opportunities to spot octopus and various crustaceans.

The local diving conditions vary depending on the site, with some areas offering shallow, calm waters suitable for beginners. More advanced sites, such as the Manza wall, can be more demanding and require higher levels of skill.

Night diving is available in the area, allowing you to experience the reef under different lighting conditions.
