Anti Gravity Divers

Anti Gravity Divers is established on the Perhentian Islands in Terengganu, Malaysia, operating from the Coral Bay area of Perhentian Kecil. Since its origins in Thailand in 2009, the centre has grown into a dedicated PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Centre, serving both recreational divers and those pursuing professional careers.

The centre is positioned to provide access to the diverse underwater landscapes of the Perhentian archipelago, ranging from shallow coral gardens to deeper reef structures and historic wrecks. It operates with a strong emphasis on environmental stewardship through its support of PADI Project AWARE and regular local clean-up initiatives.

As an Instructor Development Centre, the team is led by experienced professionals, including two PADI Course Directors and a PADI Master Instructor. This high level of expertise makes the centre a primary hub for students working through the Divemaster and Instructor pathways.

The instructor and divemaster team is multilingual, ensuring clear communication during training and guided dives. For recreational divers, the centre maintains a strict ratio of five divers per guide, ensuring close supervision and safety during every outing.

The course catalogue is extensive, covering the entire PADI spectrum from Discover Scuba Diving and Open Water Diver through to advanced specialties. For those looking to deepen their skills, the centre offers PADI Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, Night Diver, and Peak Performance Buoyancy courses.

As an IDC resort, the centre is a specialist in professional training. You can undertake the full Divemaster programme, the PADI IDC, and advanced instructor training, including MSDT and Staff Instructor courses. They also offer specialised training such as Sidemount Diver and the Recreational AVELO Diver programme.

The centre operates two custom-built speedboats to transport divers to the local sites, typically within 15 minutes of departure. The Angrybird 2 is a twin 150hp vessel with a capacity for 20 divers, while the Angrybird 3 is a single 150hp boat carrying up to 10 divers.

Both vessels are used for standard reef excursions, night dives, and exploring the various wreck sites in the area. Nitrox is available for use on these trips.

The centre provides a full range of professional rental kit for divers who do not wish to carry their own equipment. This includes a well-maintained inventory of 35 sets of diving equipment.

Divers can choose from three different cylinder volumes—8, 10, or 12 litres—to suit their buoyancy requirements and gas consumption. The staff handles the setup and cleaning of equipment, allowing you to focus on your dive preparations.

The reefs around Perhentian are characterised by a high density of hard and soft corals, sponges, and gorgonians. You will frequently encounter large schools of fish, including snapper (Lutjanus) and various Jack (Carangidae) species, alongside colourful butterflyfish (Chaetodon) and damselfish (Pomacentridae).

Large pelagics and reef residents are a regular feature of the dives. Keep an eye out for Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda), various reef sharks, and the occasional blue-spotted stingrays. Hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) and other turtle species are also commonly sighted throughout the area.

For those interested in macro life, the sites offer plenty of opportunities to find nudibranch (Chromodoris willani), scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae), and various species of shrimp (Caridea). You can also find moray eels (Muraenidae), cuttlefish (Sepiidae), and seahorse (Hippocampus kuda) amongst the coral structures.

The best window for diving in this region is between March and October. During this period, visibility can reach up to 20 metres.

Dive planning should account for the various topographies, from shallow lagoons like D'Lagoon, which is ideal for beginners, to deeper sites like Tanjung Butong, which reaches depths of 32 metres.
