Lekker Divers

Situated directly on the sands of Long Beach on Pulau Perhentian Kecil, Lekker Divers provides a central base for exploring the marine biodiversity of the Perhentian Islands. The centre has been operating in these waters for over ten years, establishing itself as a long-standing fixture in the local diving community.

The centre operates seasonally from March to October, focusing on a variety of diving styles including reef exploration, wreck diving, and night dives. Whether you are looking to start your training or are an experienced diver seeking specific specialties, the location allows for easy access to the surrounding marine parks.

The team at Lekker Divers is multilingually proficient, with instructors able to communicate in English, Malay, Dutch, French, German, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Hokkien. This breadth of language support helps ensure that technical instructions and safety briefings are clearly understood by a diverse range of divers.

The centre maintains a friendly, family-oriented atmosphere, catering to solo travellers, families, and adventurers alike. Their long-term presence in the Perhentian Islands is built on over a decade of local teaching and guiding experience.

As a PADI affiliated centre, Lekker Divers offers a comprehensive curriculum ranging from the initial Discover Scuba Dive (DSD) and PADI Bubblemaker for younger divers to full Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver certifications.

For those looking to progress their professional career, they provide PADI Rescue Diver and Divemaster courses. They also offer a variety of PADI Specialty courses, including Peak Performance Buoyancy, Wreck Diver, Deep Diver, and Underwater Photographer and Videographer specialties, as well as Search and Recovery.

Safety and emergency response are integrated into their training through the Emergency First Responder course and Emergency Oxygen Provider training.

The centre utilises small boats for its dive trips, providing efficient transport to the various reef and wreck sites surrounding the islands. These vessels facilitate access to both the nearby shallow reefs and the more distant pinnacles and wrecks.

Lekker Divers offers a full range of equipment hire for divers who do not wish to travel with their own kit. This includes regulators, BCDs, and exposure suits, all maintained for local conditions.

The reefs are home to a vast array of colourful fish, including various reef fish, snappers, and golden trevallies. You will frequently encounter large schools of Jack (Carangidae), yellow jack, and chevron barracudas, alongside resident populations of parrotfish and damselfish (Pomacentridae).

For those interested in larger pelagics and charismatic species, the area offers sightings of blacktip reef sharks (Carcharhinus melanopterus), bamboo sharks (Chiloscyllium), and occasionally whale sharks (Rhincodon typus). You may also see turtles, including hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) and green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas), as well as rays such as Jenkins' whiprays and blue spotted stingrays.

Macro enthusiasts will find plenty to explore among the corals and rocks. The sites are excellent for spotting nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani), various crustaceans, crabs (Brachyura), and shrimp (Caridea), alongside smaller creatures like pipefish and seahorses (Hippocampus kuda).

The seabed and reef structures also provide habitats for scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae), lionfish (Pterois volitans), and various species of pufferfish and boxfish (Ostraciidae).

Diving in the Perhentian Islands is best conducted during the season from March to October. During this period, the waters are generally suitable for a wide range of diving activities.

Some sites, such as the Sugar Wreck, can be subject to strong currents, which requires a higher level of experience and certification to dive safely.
