Turtle Bay Divers

Turtle Bay Divers has been a fixture of the Long Beach community since 1993. Founded by Yaakub, the centre has spent over thirty years navigating the waters of Terengganu, building a reputation rooted in deep local knowledge of the Perhentian islands.

You will find the centre situated within a protected marine park, ensuring the surrounding reefs remain vibrant and well-managed. This location provides a stable environment for both beginner training and more demanding excursions into the deeper waters of the archipelago.

The team is comprised of 12 professional instructors and experienced local captains. This ensures a high level of supervision and a deep understanding of the local tides and currents that define the region.

Instruction is conducted in English, making it straightforward for international divers to communicate technical details or training requirements. Whether you are working through your first certification or planning a specific specialty, the staff's three decades of experience provides a steady hand on the boat.

As an SSI-affiliated centre, Turtle Bay Divers offers a complete progression of training. You can begin your journey with Discover Scuba Diving or work through the Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver courses.

The centre also provides a range of SSI Specialties, allowing you to tailor your skills to the specific environments found in the Perhentian islands, such as wreck or reef-focused training.

The centre operates a fleet of 4 boats to service its daily dive schedules. These vessels transport you from the Long Beach area to the various reefs, pinnacles, and wrecks that make this part of Malaysia so diverse.

Full equipment hire is available on-site for those not travelling with their own kit. This includes essential items such as regulators, BCDs, wetsuits, fins, and masks.

For night dives or low-light conditions, torches are available for hire to help you explore the reef topography and macro life after dark.

The reefs are home to a variety of large marine life, including sea turtles and reef sharks. You will frequently encounter colourful corals that provide the structural foundation for the entire ecosystem.

On the reef flats and sandy patches, you can observe various species of reef fish moving through the water column. The biodiversity here is a direct result of the area's status as a protected marine park.

For those interested in the smaller details of the reef, the macro life provides constant interest. The complex coral structures host a wide array of life, from small crustaceans to various reef-dwelling species.

The best time to dive in this region is from March to October. During these months, the sea conditions are most favourable for regular boat trips to the outer reefs.

You should avoid diving between November and February, as this period coincides with the North East Monsoon, which brings heavier seas and less favourable conditions to the Terengganu coast.
