Barceló Fuerteventura Castillo is a large seafront hotel in Caleta de Fuste, built around the things that matter when you want an uncomplicated base: a beach, several pools, a proper spa, places to eat and enough activity to keep non-diving companions occupied.

The mood is broad rather than boutique. Families have their own facilities, couples can choose sea views or an adults-only pool, and the all-inclusive arrangement keeps the evening logistics pleasantly short. You can finish the day with a drink, a meal and a walk by the water without having to organise a small expedition.

The address is Avenida del Castillo in Caleta de Fuste, on the east coast of Fuerteventura, Spain. The hotel sits directly beside Caleta de Fuste Beach, a sheltered stretch of soft golden sand with sun loungers and parasols. Guirra Beach is about 0.8 miles away if you fancy a change of scenery.

You are not marooned on a resort island within the island. Several bars and restaurants sit roughly 0.1 to 0.2 miles away, including 555 Wine&Tapas, La Bodeguita, Goose and Firkin and The Lord Nelson. Puerto del Rosario is about 7.5 miles away, while Fuerteventura Airport is around 4.3 miles from the hotel, with the drive taking about 11 minutes by the Puerto del Rosario–FV-2 road.

Every room has a private balcony or terrace looking towards the sea, garden or pool, which gives you somewhere to sit with a drink rather than balancing it on the bathroom sink. Air conditioning matters here too: it gives you a chance to recover properly when the day has involved sun, salt and several hours in a wetsuit. Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.

For two people, the sea-view options are the obvious choice if the view is part of why you came to Fuerteventura. The Deluxe Room with Hot Tub is the one to consider when the room itself needs to do a little more of the relaxing. Travelling alone, you can choose a single-use room rather than paying for space designed around a second guest.

Rooms include a seating area, sofa, desk, electric kettle, minibar and clothes-drying rack. That means fresh water can be kept close, tea is easy to make before an early start, and damp holiday clothes have somewhere more sensible to go than over the back of a chair. Private bathrooms come with a shower, toiletries and a hairdryer. Family rooms are available, with sofa beds used in several room layouts.

The all-inclusive formula gives you the main meals without sending you back out in search of food when your appetite has caught up with the day. Buffet and à la carte restaurants cover breakfast, lunch and dinner, with international cooking alongside dishes based on local and seasonal produce. Breakfast is buffet-style, which is exactly the sort of arrangement that lets you choose between sensible fuel and the larger plate you promised yourself you would not build.

Dinner can take a turn towards Mexico or Brazil in the themed restaurants. These invitations are available for stays of seven nights or more, so longer visits get a little variety beyond the main dining room. Special-diet menus can be requested, and the buffet includes child-friendly choices.

There is one pool bar, with cocktails on the drinks list, plus a snack bar by the pool for something less ceremonious between swimming and lying down. The hotel also has a bar for evening drinks. A minibar is available in the rooms, useful when you return thirsty and have no interest in queueing for civilisation.

Three outdoor pools divide the day neatly: two saltwater pools with sea views, an adults-only pool and a pool for children. The beach is directly beside the hotel when you prefer sand to tiles, while loungers and parasols give you the classic post-dive option of doing absolutely nothing and defending it as recovery.

The Centro Thalasso Wellness, Fitness & Sport covers 3,000 square metres, with a spa lounge, steam room, sauna, hammam, jacuzzi, mud bath, wraps, facials and several types of massage, including couples treatments. There is also a fully equipped gym, fitness classes and personal training. In other words, you can either loosen up properly or make the questionable decision to train again after diving.

For a more active afternoon, you have tennis and paddle courts, mini golf, billiards, cycling, fishing, windsurfing and other water sports. Golf is available within 1.9 miles. The hotel also runs evening entertainment and live performances, while a kids’ club for children aged 4 to 12, children’s activities and outdoor play equipment give families a separate rhythm from the adults’ one.

Check-in runs from 15:00 to 23:30 and check-out from 06:00 to 12:00. You need photo identification and a payment card at check-in, and the hotel asks you to share your expected arrival time. The front desk is open around the clock, with luggage storage, a tour desk, currency exchange, an ATM and concierge service available on site.

Airport transfers are not listed as a hotel service. If you prefer not to arrange the short journey yourself, ask the hotel about its current transfer options before travelling. Car hire is available, and free private parking is provided on site, including an electric-vehicle charging station; spaces cannot be reserved.

The hotel is wheelchair accessible and has facilities for disabled guests. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property, and laundry and ironing services are available. Children of all ages are welcome, with cots available for babies; extra beds are not available. Pets are not allowed, and payments are made by card rather than cash.
