Acuarios Dive Center

Located in the heart of Costa Calma, Acuarios Dive Center has been a fixture of the Fuerteventura diving scene since 1988. The centre operates across two sites, utilizing the infrastructure of both the Sotavento Beach Club and the SBH Costa Calma Beach Hotel to provide a seamless experience for divers.

Whether you are looking to complete your first certification or are an experienced diver seeking deep, volcanic wall dives, the centre provides a professional base for your adventures. The team is led by owners Olivia Buschmann and Bernd Lehmann, who remain active in the water, ensuring a hands-on approach to every dive.

The team is composed of highly experienced, multilingual instructors who speak English, German, and Spanish. With over 20 years of experience in the industry, they provide a level of expertise that covers everything from basic skills to advanced technical specialties.

Instruction is personalised, with a focus on small groups to ensure safety and effective skill acquisition. The instructors are deeply familiar with the local currents and topography, which is essential when navigating the more demanding sites around the southern part of the island.

Acuarios Dive Center is an official SSI centre that also offers PADI courses, making it a versatile choice for any diver. The training catalogue spans the entire spectrum, starting with Scuba Diver and Open Water Diver levels through to Advanced Open Water and Rescue Diver.

For those looking to specialise, the centre offers a wide array of PADI and SSI specialties. These include Nitrox (32% and 40%), Deep Diver, Night Diving, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Navigation, and Search and Recovery. They also provide training in more niche areas such as Underwater Photography, Waves, Tides and Current, and the Science of Diving.

The centre provides a full range of rental kit for those not travelling with their own equipment. You can hire complete sets or individual items, including BCDs, regulators, wetsuits, masks, snorkels, fins, dive computers, and torches for night diving.

Nitrox is available for divers looking to extend their bottom time. The centre is well-equipped to support various training needs, from buoyancy control to specialised photography and video courses.

The volcanic reefs are home to a variety of large residents. You can regularly observe great barracuda, rays, and various tropical reef fish. The area is also known for sightings of angel sharks and octopus.

For those interested in macro life, the rocky areas and sandy bottoms host a range of invertebrates and smaller species. Keep an eye out for trumpetfish and various reef fish that inhabit the crevices of the volcanic structures.

Pelagic species, including various rays, are frequently encountered, particularly at deeper sites like Big Reef. The combination of volcanic topography and current-swept reefs creates a dynamic environment for a wide array of marine life.

The diving environment in Costa Calma is influenced by the trade winds, which can affect boat trips. While the water is accessible year-round, the best visibility is typically found during the summer and autumn months.

Divers should be prepared for varying conditions, as some sites like Las Salinas Del Carmen and the Ajuy Caves are known for having strong currents. These sites require good buoyancy control and navigation skills.
