The Aerial, BVI is a private-island wellness resort built for a small number of guests, with beaches, sea cliffs, a garden and a strong emphasis on food, movement and recovery. The island covers 44 acres and accommodates a maximum of 32 guests, so this is a deliberately small-scale place rather than a conventional hotel with a lobby full of holiday traffic.

The mood is shaped by the setting and by the choice of activities. You can move from a guided yoga session to the beach, from the outdoor spa to the saltwater pool, or simply settle on a terrace with the sea doing most of the entertaining. Evening options include live music, bonfires, outdoor films, karaoke and stargazing. A fairly broad programme, in other words, but with enough room for doing absolutely nothing when that is the only sensible plan.

The resort also works for families, with a staff-run children’s club offering beach games, craft sessions, sailing, snorkelling, farm and garden visits, films and dance evenings. For adults travelling together, the wellness programme and couples’ massage provide a quieter rhythm once the day’s adventures are over.

The hotel is in Tortola Island, British Virgin Islands, on a private island directly beside the sea. You have white-sand beaches, cliffs and gardens on the property itself, including Peace Beach, described as a quieter place to settle by the water. The island’s Island Farmacy garden also supplies the kitchen, so the surroundings are part of the daily running of the resort rather than just scenery behind the brochure photograph.

For a change of coastline, Brandywine Bay Beach is about 1.7 miles away, with a driving distance of roughly 1.9 miles. Long Bay Beach is also about 1.7 miles away as the crow flies, while Lambert Beach is around 2.3 miles away. East End Community Park is about 1.1 miles from the resort, and Cam Bay National Park is roughly 3.6 miles away by map distance.

The private-island setting does mean that getting elsewhere is part of the logistics. Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport is about 1.5 miles away by map distance, but reaching the resort involves a land transfer to the marina followed by a short boat journey.

Sea views are the recurring theme across the accommodation, with King, Queen and Superior rooms looking towards the water, alongside a garden-view option. For two people who want the simplest arrangement, a King Room with Sea View keeps the choice straightforward: one super-king bed, air conditioning and the Caribbean outside. Twin-bed arrangements are also available in selected rooms, which is useful when diving partners share a room but not a sleeping schedule.

The Deluxe Double Room is the obvious family-oriented choice, while the larger King configurations suit guests travelling with a child. Family rooms are available, and interconnected rooms provide another practical arrangement for groups. Cots and extra beds are not available, so families should choose their room configuration with that in mind rather than hoping to improvise once the luggage has arrived.

Inside, the useful details are well chosen for a warm-weather stay: air conditioning, a fan, a refrigerator, microwave, kitchenette, coffee machine, wardrobe and dressing room. Balconies and terraces appear across the accommodation description, with views varying by category. Private bathrooms include a shower, towels, toiletries, bathrobes and hairdryers. Streaming services, a television, sofa and work desk cover the less glamorous but sometimes necessary parts of the evening, while daily housekeeping keeps the room from developing its own ecosystem of wet swimwear and beach clothes.

The No-Rules Wellness Kitchen is the resort’s main table, working with fresh produce from the island garden, fresh fish and seafood, organic poultry and beef. The approach is health-focused without reducing dinner to a bowl of leaves: menus are prepared around your tastes and dietary needs, with refined sugars, seed oils, preservatives and artificial ingredients left out. All dietary restrictions and allergies can be catered for when communicated ahead of the stay.

Breakfast covers several bases, including continental, American, full English or Irish and vegetarian choices. Mornings can also bring fresh-pressed juices, smoothies and wellness shots, which is handy when coffee alone has been asked to perform a little too much. Snacks are available between meals with the all-inclusive option, so you are not left negotiating with your own hunger between breakfast and dinner.

There are two bars. The Beach Bar sits by the sand with swings and serves cocktails and mocktails built around fresh fruit, herbs and organic agave. The Peace Bar gives you another place to stop for a drink, while the food-and-drink offering also includes wine and champagne. Meals and drinks follow an all-inclusive format, with breakfast included for Room & Breakfast and all-inclusive stays.

The saltwater infinity pool is cut into the cliffside above the Sir Francis Drake Channel, giving you a second place to swim when the private beach has had enough of you. Sun loungers, beach chairs, umbrellas and pool or beach towels are available, while the beach area includes a pavilion and the Beach Bar. The setting does the hard work; your contribution can be limited to finding a comfortable chair.

The Spa is outdoors and close to the sea, with personalised treatments using natural and organic products. Options include facials, body scrubs, body wraps, foot massage, prenatal massage, deep-tissue, Swedish and Lomi-Lomi massage, as well as energy balancing. Couples’ massage is available too, a useful arrangement when both of you return from the day with shoulders that have clearly filed a complaint.

For more movement, BVI Stronger Gym, fitness classes, guided yoga, stretching and meditation are available. Land-based activities include hiking, cooking classes, garden and nature visits, table tennis, volleyball, bocce ball, beach gym sessions and horse riding. Water activities include kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing, fishing and snorkelling, with boat excursions and equipment hire also available. You can also book island outings to places including The Baths, Jost Van Dyke, Norman Island, Anegada, Cooper Island and North Sound on Virgin Gorda.

Evenings can stay active with live music, bonfires, films outdoors, karaoke and star watching. The Redemption Ranch adds rescued animals, feeding sessions and equine therapy to the programme, making this a particularly distinctive choice for guests who want more from their non-diving days than a second pool.

Arrival is organised around Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island. The resort is about 1.5 miles from the airport by map distance, with the complete journey taking around 15 minutes: roughly 10 minutes overland to the marina, followed by less than 5 minutes by boat. Airport transfers are arranged by the hotel, in a private-island journey rather than a simple road pick-up. You can also arrive via Cyril E. King Airport in St Thomas and continue by ferry or private water taxi before the hotel collects you.

Check-in runs from 15:00 to 20:00, and check-out from 10:00 to 11:00. Private check-in and check-out, luggage storage and concierge assistance are available. The minimum age for check-in is 18, children of any age are welcome, and pets are not allowed. Cash is not accepted, so keep a payment card ready for the practical end of the stay.

Wi-Fi is available throughout the resort. Rooms include air conditioning, and the resort also has a fitness centre, laundry and ironing services, a safe deposit box and a Giving Shop. The Tranquility room is accessible to guests with reduced mobility. A valid passport is required for the BVI journey, and the online BVI boarding pass must be completed before arrival.

The resort’s environmental approach starts with its own garden, Island Farmacy, which supplies the kitchen with local and organic produce. Food preparation avoids refined sugars, seed oils, preservatives and artificial ingredients, while the wider operation works towards a zero-waste management approach.

Construction uses natural materials, and the resort supports local communities and the surrounding environment. You can also take part in reef clean-ups and turtle tagging, turning the marine setting into something more practical than a view from the terrace.

The programme includes nature and garden visits, rescued-animal work through Redemption Ranch and activities linked to the island’s ecosystems. It is a hands-on approach: less about a badge on the wall, more about what you can see, eat and take part in during your stay.
