The room choice matters here because the categories are built for different sorts of trips. A Superior Double Room suits a couple who want a straightforward base, while the Superior Triple Room gives a third guest a proper single bed rather than asking everyone to negotiate the sofa. For families, the Superior Family Room has a double bed and two single beds, which is the sensible option when four people and their luggage need to coexist without a nightly reshuffle.

If you want more space for two, the Junior Suite is the category to look at. Some rooms have sea views, and outdoor furniture gives you somewhere to sit when the air-conditioned interior has done its job. Air conditioning matters in a tropical setting, particularly when you return tired, warm and still carrying the day’s salt on your skin. The Bar centrale runs from 8am until midnight, with sweet and savoury snacks at set times, soft drinks, local beer, local alcoholic drinks, espresso and tea. The Beach Bar opens from 10am to 6pm for water, fruit juice and soft drinks. The all-inclusive drinks list covers local wine, local beer, local spirits and soft drinks; cappuccino, bottled and canned drinks, and international spirits sit outside it.

The freshwater outdoor pool is set among greenery, with loungers beneath the palms and a dedicated area for younger children. It gives you a second place to spend the day when the beach has had enough of you, or when you simply want to float without dealing with sand in places where sand has no business being. Sun loungers, umbrellas and pool or beach towels are available.

For a gentler recovery session, the resort has yoga, Pilates, stretching, aquagym and aerobics, alongside a fitness centre. The sports area extends indoors and outdoors, with tennis, beach volleyball, beach tennis, five-a-side football and table tennis. Canoeing and other water-sport facilities are available on site, while snorkelling and hiking are offered away from the resort.

The beach wellness area has a sea view and offers massages, which is a more convincing post-dive plan than pretending a competitive tournament is what your shoulders need. Evening entertainment, themed dinner nights and stand-up comedy give the resort some life after dark, while the boutique, garden and loungers cover the quieter hours.

Check-in starts at noon and check-out is by 10am. You need to tell the resort your expected arrival time in advance, particularly if your journey to Nosy Be involves several connecting stages and a timetable that has already begun to drift. An airport shuttle is available on request, and luggage storage is available at the resort.

Fascene Airport is 17 km away. The front desk operates around the clock, and the resort has a tour desk, currency exchange, a boutique and an on-site infirmary. Free WiFi is available in public areas. Visa, Mastercard and cash are accepted, which covers the ordinary practicalities without requiring a hunt for a cash machine the moment you arrive.
