Liquid Salt Divers

Liquid Salt Divers is situated on the quiet island of Dharavandhoo, positioned perfectly within the Baa Atoll. This area is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, making it one of the most ecologically significant locations in the Maldives.

The centre's location offers a direct gateway to Hanifaru Bay, a protected site famous for its massive seasonal aggregations of pelagics. It is a destination where the biology of the ocean is on full display, driven by the unique currents and plankton levels of the atoll.

As a PADI 5 Star dive centre, the operation is run by a professional team including four instructors, dive guides, and experienced boat captains. All instruction and communication are conducted in English.

Beyond standard dive guiding, the centre is deeply integrated into local marine science. They collaborate actively with the Manta Trust and the Maldives Whale Shark Research Project, ensuring that the diving activities support ongoing conservation and research efforts in the region.

The centre provides a full range of PADI training, from the initial Discover Scuba Diving programme for beginners through to Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver certifications.

For those looking to progress their professional career or technical skills, they offer Rescue Diver, Divemaster, and the PADI Nitrox course. The curriculum covers all fundamental levels of the PADI system.

Nitrox is available for divers looking to extend their bottom time or manage nitrogen loading during multi-dive days. The centre is equipped to handle the specific requirements of divers looking to optimise their profiles in these nutrient-rich waters.

The area is defined by its large pelagics, particularly during the period from May to November. During these months, you can witness significant aggregations of reef manta rays (Mobula alfredi) and whale sharks.

Throughout the year, the reefs are home to grey reef sharks and hawksbill sea turtles. You will also regularly encounter various reef fish species that thrive in the nutrient-rich waters of the atoll.

The ecosystem is supported by high plankton levels, which provides the foundation for the entire food chain, attracting everything from small reef dwellers to the largest filter feeders in the ocean.

Diving in the Baa Atoll is heavily influenced by the seasonal monsoon shifts and lunar tides. These natural cycles dictate the movement of water and the concentration of plankton throughout the reserve.

Stronger currents are a characteristic of sites like Hanifaru Bay, where the influx of nutrients is most intense. Divers should be prepared for these conditions when visiting the bay during peak feeding seasons.
