Kudafushi Resort and Spa

Set on Kudafushi Island in Raa Atoll, this is a 107-room resort built for days that move at island speed. The setting is beachfront, the accommodation comes in villas and suites, and the overall feel is more self-contained island base than simple hotel stopover.

You can keep things as active or idle as you like. There is a beach, an infinity pool, a spa, several restaurants and a beach bar, with enough on the island to avoid turning every non-diving day into a logistics exercise. English is catered for on site, while the resort also lists Spanish, German, Russian, Italian, French, Turkish and Chinese among its spoken languages.

The resort sits directly beside the sea on Kudafushi Island, in Raa Atoll, Maldives. The beach is white sand with sun loungers and parasols, so the water is part of the everyday layout rather than something you have to go looking for.

The journey from the airport takes around 45 minutes by the resort's transfer service. Once you arrive, the island setting keeps the focus on the resort itself: beach, water and the facilities on site, rather than a nearby town or mainland neighbourhood.

The choice is mainly about where you want to wake up. Beach villas keep you close to the sand, while water villas put the sea directly into the view and the rhythm of the day. If a private pool matters more than being right on the water, the beach and water pool villas are the obvious direction. For a couple wanting more room to spread out and settle in, the Presidential Double Suite is the more substantial option.

All rooms have air conditioning, a private bathroom, shower, television, minibar, bathrobe, slippers and toiletries. That covers the practical aftermath of salt water, sun and a long day outdoors. A safe, telephone, towels and wardrobe space are also available, with the exact arrangement varying by category.

The accommodation is aimed at couples as well as guests who want the room itself to be part of the island stay. Choose beach access for easy barefoot wandering, or choose a water-facing villa when the view matters more than being beside the sand. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at De’ North, whose menu combines international dishes with local flavours. Breakfast is a buffet from 07:30 to 10:00, lunch runs from 12:30 to 15:00, and dinner from 19:30 to 22:00. It is the dependable all-day restaurant for the days when you want to eat without making a production of it.

Dinner gives you two more directions. Olive Me serves Mediterranean food beside the beach from 19:30 to 22:00, while Sea Edge focuses on Asian cuisine from 19:45 to 22:00. Sea Edge also opens its bar from 17:00 to 19:00. One other bar, Juju Bar, sits on the beach and specialises in cocktails, which is a fairly straightforward answer to the question of where to take the first drink of the evening.

Meal plans include all-inclusive and soft all-inclusive options. A snack bar, buffet breakfast, bottled water and tea or coffee facilities are also part of the resort's food and drink set-up.

The infinity pool and direct white-sand beach give you two easy places to stop moving. Sun loungers, parasols and beach equipment are available, while the pool offers the usual alternative when you want water without sand in every possible pocket. The terrace and garden provide a change of surface when even the beach feels too ambitious.

K-SPA handles the slower recovery work, with massages, facials, sauna, jacuzzi and body wraps. There is also a gym, along with yoga and meditation for anyone who prefers a stretch to a second round of doing nothing. Tennis, table tennis, billiards, fitness equipment and a choice of water sports add activity without requiring a full-day expedition.

Kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and jet skiing are available, alongside fishing and boat excursions. The resort can also arrange sunset cruises, visits to a local island, sandbank picnics, desert-island outings, dolphin trips and fishing excursions. In the evening, karaoke and a discotheque keep things livelier, should the beach bar fail to hold your attention.

Check-in runs from 14:00 and check-out is at 12:00. Airport transfers are available on request, by shuttle, with the transfer paid separately. The resort also offers excursion assistance, so boat trips and island outings can be arranged without turning the reception desk into a second job.

Wi-Fi is free throughout the resort. Air conditioning is available, as are laundry services, luggage storage, concierge assistance, currency exchange, a souvenir shop and room service. A medical room is on site, with a doctor available on request. Express check-in, private check-in and check-out, safes and accessible facilities are also part of the practical support.
