Constance Lemuria

You come here for a resort that takes the whole post-dive day seriously. Constance Lemuria sits between beaches, gardens and jungle on Praslin, with suites and villas, a three-level swimming pool, four restaurants and five bars. It is polished without requiring you to spend every minute in formal clothes; the practical detail is that several restaurants have their own evening dress rules, while daytime dining remains more relaxed.

English is spoken by the hotel team, alongside French, German and Italian. That matters when you are discussing an early breakfast, a room request or the logistics of a day on the water. Families are welcome too, with the Coconut Tribe kids' club for children aged 4 to 11, babysitting and a children's pool, while couples can make proper use of the spa, the beach and the more grown-up restaurants.

The address is Anse Kerlan, Grand'Anse Praslin, Seychelles, right on the coast of Praslin. You have direct access to the beach and garden from the Pool Villas, while Petite Anse Kerlan Beach and Anse Kerlan Beach are both about 300 metres away. Anse Georgette Beach is roughly 450 metres away, so the beach question here is not whether you can reach one, but which one you fancy.

Praslin Island Airport is about 1 mile away by road, with a drive that takes roughly five to fifteen minutes. The resort is also well placed for excursions: Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve is about 5 miles away, and Praslin Museum around 9 miles away by road. You can also reach Anse Lazio by car, although that is a longer outing at around 14 miles.

The resort is self-contained enough for days spent on site, but you are not marooned in a decorative bubble. Car hire, a tour desk, currency exchange and an airport shuttle are available, and free private parking is provided on site.

The Junior Suite is the straightforward couple's choice: enough room to live in rather than merely sleep, with air conditioning for the sticky return from the sea. The Senior Suite gives you more space to spread out, while the villas change the tone altogether. Private pools are available, and the Two-Bedroom Villa is the obvious option when you are travelling with family or want separate sleeping arrangements without giving up room to sit together.

The Presidential Villa is designed for a larger group, with three bathrooms and private-pool accommodation. Some units have thatched roofs and all are furnished with wood, so the look is tropical without relying entirely on white walls and laminated surfaces. En-suite bathrooms include a bath and shower, with bathrobes, slippers, toiletries and a hairdryer ready for the less glamorous part of the day.

For the night itself, you have air conditioning, a safe, satellite television with a DVD player, a telephone and free WiFi in the rooms. A seating area gives you somewhere to wait out the hottest part of the afternoon or let wet hair dry before dinner; room service runs from 07:00 to 22:30, which is useful when your energy runs out before your appetite does.

Half-board is the standard formula, with breakfast served as a buffet. The Legend handles breakfast, lunch and dinner, mixing Creole and international cooking with continental and full English choices in the morning. Lunch moves to the pool with lighter dishes, while evenings bring themed dinners and a weekly chocolate event. You will want to know the dress code before dinner, particularly if your luggage has been packed around wetsuits rather than collared shirts.

The Nest is the seafood stop, set on the rocky peninsula between the two Anse Kerlan beaches. Fresh Indian Ocean seafood arrives in Creole style, and the deck on the rocks is used for intimate dinners. Takamaka is the daytime option beside Petite Anse Kerlan, with salads, sandwiches, ceviches and sushi given a Seychellois twist. Diva takes the more formal evening route, with international and continental dishes, a Sommelier Wine Room Experience and a whisky selection.

Five bars give you more choice than a single lobby counter. Huna Bar covers morning coffee, cocktails, rum, wine, cigars, pre-dinner snacks and after-dinner digestifs. Diva Bar adds cocktails, whiskies and gourmet snacks, while the Legend Pool Bar handles beers, smoothies, tropical cocktails, sundaes, waffles and ice cream. In other words, there is both a place for a proper drink and a place where you can eat something cold without changing out of pool clothes.

The three-level pool gives you a place to cool down without moving far, and the beachfront setting makes the simplest plan perfectly workable: swim, find a sun lounger, read a few pages and leave the phone alone. The beach is directly accessible, with sun umbrellas and beach chairs available. Snorkelling, kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing and windsurfing are also available on site, along with Hobie Cats, Laser Boats and pedal boats for when floating is not quite enough activity.

For recovery rather than entertainment, Constance Spa offers massages, facials, body exfoliation and couples' rituals using Sisley treatments. A sauna, hammam, jacuzzi and cold plunge let you choose between warming up and cooling down, while the spa lounge gives you somewhere to sit afterwards without being asked whether you would like to join a game of anything. The fitness centre is open around the clock and includes cardio, strength, stretching and functional-training areas, with Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Yoga Nidra and Pilates also available.

You can play tennis, cycle, hike or use the golf course within 3 km. Excursions include Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve and the tortoise sanctuary, and there are options for wildlife observation and cultural visits. The Coconut Tribe adds island exploration, local crafts, cooking activities and treasure hunts for children aged 4 to 11, with babysitting available when adults would prefer an uninterrupted dinner.

Check-in starts at 15:00 and check-out is by 12:00. You need photo identification and a credit card on arrival, and the hotel asks you to share your expected arrival time in advance. Cards are accepted; cash is not. Airport shuttle services are available, and inter-island transfers can be arranged for reaching Praslin from the main island.

Free private parking is available on site without a reservation, and car hire can be arranged if you want to reach Vallée de Mai, Anse Lazio or the museum under your own steam. The tour desk, luggage storage, lockers, ATM and currency exchange are useful little pieces of infrastructure when an island stay involves more than beach and boat.

Children of all ages are welcome. Cots and extra beds can be requested, with availability depending on the accommodation selected, and baby equipment such as a car seat and pushchair is available on request. Daily housekeeping, laundry, dry cleaning and ironing services are also available, which is welcome when your dive kit is not the only thing that has spent the day getting wet.

Constance Lemuria runs a tortoise sanctuary and an Eco Kiosk with interactive displays about marine life, biodiversity and conservation. The resort also links its sustainability work to conservation and community involvement, so the subject is given a physical place on site rather than being left as a paragraph in a brochure.
