Paradise Sun Praslin is a beachfront hotel for divers who want the sea close, but do not intend to spend every waking hour discussing cylinders. French-Creole bungalows sit among tropical flowering gardens at the quieter end of Anse Volbert, with the beach immediately outside and a pool, spa and daily dining on site.

English is spoken by the hotel team, alongside French, Italian and German. That matters when you are arranging a car, discussing dinner or trying to explain that the room key has gone for an accidental swim. The atmosphere suits couples, families and anyone who prefers a proper beach hotel with things happening around it, rather than a bare room used only for sleeping.

Your evenings can be as simple as a drink, dinner and a walk on the sand, or more organised, with live entertainment, Creole dancing and coconut demonstrations on the programme. The hotel keeps the focus on the island: garden, beach, food, music and the occasional excursion when staying still becomes too ambitious.

You are in Baie Sainte Anne, on Praslin Island in the Seychelles, directly on Anse Volbert, also known as Cote d'Or Beach. The hotel occupies the quieter end of a white coral-sand beach that stretches for around 1.2 miles, with granite boulders to one side, tropical gardens behind and views towards St Pierre and Chauve Souris islands.

The beach is not something you reach by shuttle or by crossing a road. It starts at the hotel. When the tide is out, the broad strip of pale sand gives you room for a barefoot walk; when you have had enough sun, the gardens and pool bring you back under cover without making the return journey an expedition.

Praslin Museum is around 1 mile away, while the Vallee de Mai Nature Reserve is about 1.2 miles from the hotel and around a 15-minute drive. Praslin Island Airport is 3.2 miles away, with the journey taking around 15 minutes by car. International arrivals land on Mahé, from where you continue to Praslin by domestic flight or ferry.

The rooms follow a practical island pattern: air conditioning for the hot return from the sea, a ceiling fan, tea and coffee-making facilities, a refrigerator and a furnished balcony or terrace. A wooden sliding door opens onto that outdoor space, so you have somewhere to sit with a drink while your wet hair dries and the day stops demanding decisions.

For two people, the Superior Double Room keeps things straightforward, with an extra-large double bed and a balcony. The Deluxe rooms make more sense when three people are sharing, as the sofa bed gives everyone a defined sleeping place rather than turning the main bed into a negotiation. Family rooms are also available.

Couples looking for a more romantic setup can choose the Superior Honeymoon Room. The honeymoon arrangement includes a bottle and a bouquet in the room. Across the categories, the style is Creole rather than minimalist hotel-box: garden or other views, private bathrooms with showers, daily housekeeping and the useful small details that help a diving day run smoothly, including a wardrobe, alarm clock and refrigerator.

Half-board is the core arrangement, with breakfast and dinner included. Breakfast is served buffet-style, with an American breakfast selection, and afternoon tea brings fresh fruit juice, tea and cookies. It is the sort of pause that earns its keep when the morning started early and lunch feels less like a meal than a maintenance requirement.

There are two restaurant settings. Paradise Sun Buffet handles breakfast by the pool and dinner, while St Pierre Beach Restaurant serves lunch and dinner directly on the beach. Its Creole and international cooking includes a signature Creole curry, catch-of-the-day seafood, pizza and other familiar dishes with a Seychelles slant.

Dinner comes with daily themed buffet nights, and live entertainment runs four nights a week. The same beach restaurant also handles cocktails, while the drinks offering includes local rums. Do keep one practical point in mind: drinks at dinner are not included in the half-board arrangement. Special-diet menus can be arranged on request.

The outdoor pool is free-form and split-level, with loungers and umbrellas around it. It gives you a second place to settle when the beach is too bright, while the direct access to Anse Volbert means you can switch between sand and water without planning a military operation.

For gentler recovery, Vallee de Mai Spa uses natural, organic ingredients gathered from the forests and bays of the Seychelles. Treatments include massages and body care, with Balinese-style techniques, and yoga is also available. A couples massage fits neatly between a late breakfast and the point at which another person suggests an excursion.

There is more to do when you want movement without another dive: kayaking, paddleboarding, canoeing, snorkelling, fishing, boat excursions, cycling and nature walks. On land, you can play volleyball, football, table tennis or pétanque, join a Creole cooking class, or take part in an experience centred on traditional Creole home life. Evening entertainment adds Creole dancing and coconut demonstrations, while island tours and car hire can be arranged.

Check-in starts at 14:00 and check-out is at 10:00. The property can handle arrivals at any time, but you need to tell the hotel when you expect to arrive; photo identification and a credit card are required at check-in. Early arrival and late departure can be requested, subject to availability.

Praslin is not the main island. You reach it from Mahé by domestic flight or ferry, and an airport transfer from Praslin Island Airport can be arranged on request, privately or as a shared service through the hotel. Car hire and island tours are also available to arrange, which is useful if the Vallée de Mai or the more distant beaches are on your list.

Free private parking is available on site, and WiFi is free throughout the hotel. Luggage storage, a tour desk, currency exchange and concierge assistance are available for the practical jobs. Children of all ages are welcome; guests under 18 must check in with a parent or official guardian. Cots for very young children can be requested, while pets are not allowed.
