The scale is small enough to feel more personal than a large resort, without turning the evening into a search for basic comforts.

Air-conditioned rooms, outdoor seating, a beachfront restaurant and the Coco de Mer lounge bar give you the useful shape of a diving day: cool down, eat, have a cocktail, then retreat to your own space. The atmosphere is relaxed rather than staged, with the Indian Ocean doing most of the decorative work.

You are in Baie Sainte Anne, on Praslin in the Seychelles, with the hotel set directly on Côte D'Or Beach. Anse Volbert Côte D'Or Beach is essentially at the property, while Anse Petit Cour Beach is about 0.7 miles away and Anse Possession Beach about 1.1 miles away. The practical difference is obvious: you do not need a vehicle for your first encounter with the sea.

The setting also gives you alternatives when the beach has had enough of you. The Praslin Museum is about 0.6 miles away, and Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve is about 1.2 miles away. For food and drinks outside the hotel, Pizzaria is about 50 feet away, Fregate about 350 feet away, and Ristorante Pizzas about 600 feet away. Charcoal and Chill Out are within roughly half a mile, so you have a few nearby options without turning dinner into an expedition.

The room choice is mainly about how much space and sea view you want, rather than about squeezing in a larger group: the listed rooms and suites are designed for two guests. A Standard Room keeps things straightforward, while the Deluxe Double Room with Sea View suits a couple who want the ocean in the picture from the moment the curtains open. The balcony version gives you outdoor space without changing the basic two-person format.

For a more generous night, the Junior Suite and the Suite with Sea View bring the extra room that matters when wet bags, clothes and evening wear are all competing for territory. The Ocean View rooms and Junior Suites have four-poster beds and hand-carved wooden furniture, while the larger en-suite bathrooms include a separate bath and shower. There is also a dressing room in the bedroom facilities, a detail that earns its keep when you are unpacking more than one set of dive clothing.

Every room is air-conditioned, and balconies or patios face either the Indian Ocean or the garden according to the accommodation. A seating area, desk, wardrobe or closet, flat-screen television and tea and coffee-making facilities cover the basics without pretending that a television is the reason you travelled to Praslin. Daily housekeeping, room service on request and free Wi-Fi in the rooms keep the practical side tidy.

The restaurant sits on the beach, with a terrace facing the ocean, and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The kitchen works across Creole, international and seafood dishes, with freshly caught fish cooked in Creole style using local spices and sauces. That is the useful distinction here: the menu is not simply international food with a tropical view attached.

Breakfast is included and served as a buffet, with a Full English/Irish option for anyone who considers a morning properly started only once eggs have entered the equation. Breakfast runs from 07:30 to 10:00, which gives you room for an early start or a slower morning when the previous day’s diving has made the alarm unpopular.

There are two bars. The Bar is open from 09:30 to 22:00, while the Coco de Mer lounge bar focuses on cocktails and also serves them on the restaurant terrace throughout the day. A snack bar, minibar, tea and coffee-making facilities, packed lunches on request and room service on a limited, request basis cover the awkward gaps between meals. Special-diet menus can be arranged on request.

The beach is the obvious post-dive plan, and the hotel provides sun loungers, beach chairs, umbrellas and outdoor furniture so you can remain close to the water without having to perform another organised activity. A garden, sun terrace, patio and terrace add a few different places to sit when you want shade, conversation or simply ten minutes of silence that does not involve a briefing.

There is a hot tub for the parts of the body that object to carrying equipment, and spa facilities with massage treatments covering the full body, back, neck, head, hands and feet. A foot bath is also available. It is a modest but useful wellness offer: enough to make recovery part of the day, without turning the hotel into a catalogue of treatments.

When sitting still becomes too ambitious, bicycles can be rented, and cycling is available off site. Snorkelling is available, while hiking and fishing can be arranged off site. Boat tours to the surrounding islands can be arranged at reception. Children are welcome, with family rooms and children’s meals available, although the room policies do not provide extra beds; a cot can be requested for younger children.

Praslin Island Airport is about 7 miles from the hotel, with the drive taking around 15 minutes. A shuttle from the airport can be arranged with the hotel. If you are arriving via the main island, remember that the property is on Praslin, so an inter-island transfer is part of the journey; arrange the connection before arrival rather than leaving it to the last minute.

Check-in runs from 14:00 to 23:00 and check-out from 08:00 to 10:00. You need to provide photo identification and a credit card at check-in, and the hotel needs your expected arrival time in advance. Luggage storage, currency exchange, car hire, free private parking and a safety deposit box are available, while laundry and ironing services can take care of the less glamorous consequences of a damp island wardrobe.

Cash is an accepted payment method. Children of all ages are welcome, with cots available for children aged between 0 and 3 years, subject to the accommodation option. Pets are not allowed. For a long day away from the restaurant, packed lunches can be requested, which is considerably more useful than discovering at midday that lunch was part of an optimistic plan.
