Atlantis Oia

Located in the village of Oia, Atlantis Oia provides access to the unique underwater topography of the Santorini caldera. The centre operates from a base in Armeni Bay, where the boat departures take place, allowing for direct access to the volcanic reefs and underwater formations that define this Aegean landscape.

The diving here is characterised by the dramatic volcanic scenery of the islands. You will find yourself exploring underwater cliffs, volcanic reefs, and various wrecks, all set against the backdrop of one of the most famous geological formations in the world.

The centre is run by Apostolos Stylianopoulos and Marta Fortes Vilaltella, offering a professional yet family-oriented atmosphere. Apostolos is a highly experienced instructor, holding PADI IDC Staff Instructor and SSI Assistant Instructor Trainer ratings, with 25 years of diving experience in the region.

Environmental stewardship is a core part of their operation. The team is actively involved in marine conservation projects, including the monitoring of microplastics and sea temperatures, and supports the development of marine protected areas. This commitment extends to local education, where they participate in programmes to raise awareness about marine ecology.

Atlantis Oia offers a comprehensive curriculum for all levels, certified through PADI, SSI, and ANDI. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving or the Scuba Diver Course, leading into the Open Water Diver certification.

For those looking to advance their skills, the centre provides the Advanced Open Water Course and various specialties. These include PADI Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, and Underwater Navigation, as well as Peak Performance Buoyancy. They also offer specialised training in Underwater Photography, Night Diving, and ecology-focused courses such as Marine Ecology, Sea Turtle Ecology, and Shark Ecology.

Dives are conducted via boat from Armeni Bay, following a short transfer from the Oia office. The excursions take you out into the caldera to explore the volcanic islands and surrounding reefs.

The centre provides a full range of diving equipment for hire. All kit is transported by the staff to the dive base, ensuring you have everything required for your excursions.

Each dive programme includes snacks and water to keep you hydrated and fuelled between dives.

The volcanic reefs and surrounding waters host a variety of Mediterranean species. You can regularly encounter octopus and lionfish amongst the rocky structures and crevices.

Macro life and smaller inhabitants add detail to the underwater landscape, with divers looking for various crustaceans and smaller organisms that inhabit the volcanic terrain.

The diving environment in the area is generally manageable, as there are no strong currents to contend with. This makes the volcanic reefs accessible for a wide range of divers. Visibility in the area is recorded at 30 metres.
