The waters around Gozo are home to a diverse array of reef fish and larger pelagics. You can regularly observe schools of fish, including sea bream (Sparidae), damselfish (Pomacentridae), and Salema porgy (Sarpa salpa). Larger predators like the Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda), Amberjack (Seriola), and Common dentex (Dentex dentex) are often seen patrolling the deeper sections of the walls.

For those interested in macro life and smaller creatures, the seabed and crevices offer plenty of interest. You might encounter the Octopus (Octopus vulgaris), various species of eel (Anguilliformes) such as the Moray eel (Muraenidae) or Conger eel (Congridae), and the elusive Seahorse (Hippocampus kuda). Cuttlefish (Sepiidae) and various crustaceans, including Spiny lobster (Palinuridae) and Crab (Brachyura), are also part of the local ecosystem.

The reef architecture is built upon a rich foundation of fixed life. Star coral and various sponges (Porifera) provide essential habitats for many species, while tube worms and sea squirts add texture to the underwater landscape. You will also find various species of Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani) and sea hares tucked away in the more sheltered areas of the reef.
