Diving Center Colera | Centre de plongée Costa Brava

Diving Center Colera is situated in the small town of Colera, positioned at the northern edge of the Costa Brava. The centre is integrated into the Sant Miquel Camping complex, providing a convenient base for those looking to combine diving with established holiday facilities.

The location offers immediate access to some of the most significant marine environments in the region, specifically the Cap de Creus Natural Park and the Banyuls-Cerbère Marine Reserve. This area is renowned for its high biodiversity and diverse underwater topography, ranging from sandy flats to dramatic vertical walls.

The team consists of 8 instructors, providing a professional foundation for both recreational and training divers. The centre is recognised by the Generalitat de Catalunya and operates under PADI, SSI, and ANMP affiliations.

Communication is straightforward for international divers, as the staff is multilingual, speaking French, English, Spanish, Catalan, and Italian. This ensures that training and dive briefings are clear and precise for a wide range of visitors.

The centre provides a comprehensive range of training through PADI, SSI, and ANMP. For those beginning their journey, courses include Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver.

More specialised training is available for divers looking to expand their skills, such as the PADI Deep Diver Specialty, PADI Enriched Air Nitrox, and buoyancy and navigation courses. The centre also offers Rescue Diver and Divemaster training, alongside EFR (Emergency First Response) certifications.

The centre operates two boats, including the Cap de Creus II, which features a bar service and a glass bottom for viewing the seabed. The Fly Blue is also available, providing hot tea and water to divers on board.

Both vessels are equipped with an elevator to assist with boarding, along with sun decks and shelving for personal belongings. Nitrox is available on board to support extended bottom times during your trips.

Onshore facilities are designed for efficiency, with a dedicated area for equipment washing and drying. The centre provides full kit hire, including regulators, BCDs, and wetsuits, all of which are regularly inspected and disinfected.

The compression station is robust, featuring two Bauer air compressors and a dedicated Nitrox compressor with an O2 mixer for technical diving requirements. Divers can choose from various cylinder volumes, including 7, 10, 12, and 15-litre options, available in both air and EAN32.

The marine life in the Cap de Creus is exceptionally diverse, particularly along the vertical walls and rocky pinnacles. You will find a wealth of gorgonians and red coral providing a backdrop for larger species such as groupers, dentex, and barracudas. In more open areas, it is possible to encounter tuna, bonito, and ocean sunfish.

The macro life is equally impressive, with a high concentration of nudibranchs, octopuses, and various crustaceans. Divers often spot moray eels, scorpionfish, and sea snakes amongst the rocks and crevices.

On the sandy bottoms and seagrass meadows, you can find rays, sea cucumbers, and various mollusks. The reef structures are also home to a variety of smaller inhabitants including starfish, sponges, and sea squirts.

The area is subject to the Tramuntana wind, which can influence surface conditions. However, specific sites like Punta Falcó and Punta Negra are protected, ensuring that diving remains possible even when the wind is strong.

Certain areas, most notably Massa d'Or, are known to experience strong currents. These sites are better suited for more experienced divers who are comfortable with drift diving or navigating through moving water.
