Maremasma

Maremasma is established as a leading provider of nautical ecotourism in the province of Lugo, Spain. Situated directly in the Puerto Deportivo de Foz, the centre provides easy access to the Atlantic waters of the Galicia coast.

The centre operates with a focus on the relationship between the diver and the marine environment. By integrating marine biologists into their instructional approach, they ensure that every dive is an opportunity to understand and respect the local ecosystems.

The team is composed of highly qualified instructors and marine biologists who specialise in teaching diving techniques alongside environmental science. This dual expertise allows for a more educational experience, particularly when identifying local flora and fauna.

Instruction follows the SSI system, offering a structured progression from beginner certifications to professional levels. The centre maintains a high standard of safety and personalised attention, operating with a ratio of one guide per diver.

The training programme is comprehensive, covering the full spectrum of SSI certifications. Beginners can start with Open Water Diver, while those looking to progress can undertake Advanced Adventure, Deep Diver, and Diver Stress & Rescue courses.

Specialised training is also available for divers looking to refine specific skills, such as Buoyancy and Trim, Dry Suit Diver, and Nitrox. For those pursuing a professional career, the centre offers the Divemaster programme. Additional specialty training includes underwater photography, species identification, and wreck diving.

Dives are conducted from the water using both boat-based and shore-based methods. The centre organises outings throughout the year, providing access to various sites around Foz and the surrounding coastline.

The centre provides a full range of rental equipment for those not travelling with their own kit. This includes regulators, BCDs (stab jackets), wetsuits, fins, and masks.

For all outings and courses, cylinders and weights are included in the service. Nitrox is available for divers looking to extend their bottom time on specific outings.

The marine life in the area is defined by its vibrant fixed life. In the Ría de Viveiro, you will find extensive gardens of gorgonians in various colours, providing a complex habitat for many species.

Among the macro life and smaller inhabitants, you can regularly encounter octopus, crabs, and various fish species. These creatures move through the gorgonian forests and rocky crevices throughout the year.

The local ecosystem supports a healthy population of reef-dwelling species, making it a rewarding area for both photographers and those interested in marine biology.

Diving in this region is possible year-round, with water temperatures typically ranging between 11°C and 19°C. The centre organises trips from both the boat and the shore to suit different conditions and site requirements.
