Scuba Moraira

Scuba Moraira is one of the longest-established dive centres on the Costa Blanca, situated on the Moraira coast road. The centre is ideally positioned for exploring the Mediterranean, located just a 45-minute drive from Alicante airport and 60 minutes from Valencia airport.

Operating as an SSI Instructor Training Center, the shop serves as a hub for both local divers and those travelling to the region for professional development. From the Moraira Marina, the centre runs daily boat trips to a wide selection of more than 25 different dive sites, covering depths from 6 metres to nearly 40 metres.

As an SSI Instructor Training Center, the facility is geared towards high-level professional training. They facilitate the full progression of SSI certifications, including Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, and various Instructor levels.

The team provides instruction for a wide range of specialties, from fundamental skills like Perfect Buoyancy and Navigation to more advanced ecological and technical courses. This professional focus ensures that students receive structured training from experienced guides.

The centre offers the complete spectrum of SSI training. This begins with the Open Water Diver course and extends through Advanced Open Water to professional levels including Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, and Instructor Training Courses.

Specialised training is a core part of the curriculum, with courses such as Deep Diving, Decompression Diving, and Recreational Sidemount Diving. Divers can also refine their skills through the Perfect Buoyancy and Navigation courses, or pursue technical paths like the Gas Blender course. For those interested in the local environment, several ecology-based specialties are available, including Shark Ecology, Manta & Ray Ecology, Marine Ecology, Coral Identification, and Fish Identification.

The Tammy, a Valiant diving RIB powered by a 225 horse power Yamaha four stroke engine, is used for daily excursions. It has a capacity for 10 persons and is equipped with a boarding ladder, GPS, chart plotter, sonar, and a VHF radio with an emergency distress calling system.

On board, divers can find a music player and non-alcoholic beverages. The boat is fully prepared for safety with emergency oxygen equipment, a comprehensive first aid kit, and flares. The Tammy is used for morning, afternoon, and late afternoon boat dives, as well as night dives.

The dive shop is fully stocked with a comprehensive range of the latest scuba, swimming, and snorkelling equipment. For those not bringing their own kit, full equipment hire is available.

Cylinders are provided in 10-litre or 12-litre volumes, with 15-litre cylinders available upon request. The centre supports advanced diving profiles with Nitrox and Trimix availability. Safety is prioritised on-site with emergency oxygen and a complete first aid kit maintained at the centre.

The Mediterranean habitats around Moraira are rich with life, from the seagrass meadows to the rocky walls. You will frequently encounter various species of bream, including sargo and salpa varieties, alongside wrasse, damselfish, and goldline bream. Larger predators such as amberjacks, barracuda, and groupers are often seen patrolling the deeper sections of the walls.

Macro life and crustaceans are abundant throughout the rocky formations and caves. Divers can look for octopus, moray eels, conger eels, and various species of lobster, including spiny lobster and slipper lobsters. Scorpion fish, sea stars, and hermit crabs are also common sights among the crevices.

The reef structure is decorated with diverse fixed life, including sea fans, gorgonia, tubeworms, and various anemones. These provide essential habitats for smaller inhabitants like cardinalfish and many brightly coloured reef fish.

During the summer months, you may encounter larger pelagic species such as eagle rays and stingrays. Sunfish and dolphins are also known to visit the area.

The Costa Blanca coastline benefits from currents driven by deeper sea movements and organic outflows, which contribute to the high density of marine life. These currents can vary depending on the specific site, such as the gentle drift experienced at Organ Corner or the more pronounced currents found at Cap D’or.

Many of the sites are suited to various experience levels, with shallow bays like The Fridge or Mushroom Rock providing calmer conditions for those working on buoyancy, while deeper walls and points offer more varied environments.
