Poseidon Roses Diving Center

Poseidon Roses is a cornerstone of the diving community on the Costa Brava, with a history stretching back to 1972. Originally founded as Poseidon Nemrod Club, the centre has evolved through three generations of the same family, maintaining a deep-rooted connection to the local waters.

You will find the centre located in Santa Margarita, Roses, a coastal hub with extensive infrastructure for accommodation and dining. From here, you are perfectly positioned to explore the protected marine zones of the Cap de Creus Natural Park, one of the most ecologically significant areas in the region.

The centre is operated by three generations of divers, from the founders Bernd and Bárbara to their children and grandchildren. This family structure ensures that local knowledge of the Cap de Creus is passed down directly to every instructor and guide.

They work with major federations including CMAS and SSI, ensuring high standards of instruction and safety. The team is multilingual, with staff capable of communicating in English, French, German, Spanish, Catalan, and Italian, making it easy to coordinate dives and training regardless of your native tongue.

Beyond standard instruction, the team maintains close ties with the University of Girona and the University of Barcelona. They participate in marine biology research and act as official guides for the Cap de Creus Natural Park, bringing a scientific depth to the local marine environment.

Training at Poseidon Roses covers the full spectrum of diver development. They offer the Open Water Diver course for beginners and various specialisations to help you refine your skills.

For those looking to adapt to different environments, they provide Dry Suit Diver training. The centre is affiliated with CMAS and SSI, meaning your certifications are recognised internationally through these established global organisations.

The Poseidon is a 12-metre vessel constructed from fibre and wood, designed specifically to handle the local conditions. With a beam of 3.5 metres, it offers a stable platform for diving trips and has a capacity for more than 25 divers.

On board, the boat is equipped with essential facilities including a WC and first aid equipment. For safety, oxygen is kept on hand for use during trips. The vessel serves as the primary means for reaching the diverse sites around the Cap de Creus, including Punta Falconera and Cap Norfeu.

The centre provides a complete range of equipment hire for divers who prefer not to travel with their own kit. This includes regulators, BCDs, wetsuits, and fins, allowing you to arrive ready to dive without heavy lifting.

Safety is a priority on-site, with oxygen and first aid kits readily available. The facility is designed to support both training and exploration, providing a professional base for your time in Roses.

The marine life around the Cap de Creus is remarkably diverse, with the rocky reefs and vertical walls providing plenty of shelter. You will regularly encounter large groupers, great barracuda, and moray eels tucked into the crevices. Spiny lobsters and octopus are also common residents of the reef structure.

For those interested in smaller inhabitants, the area is home to a variety of invertebrates. You can find red gorgonians and purple gorgonians decorating the walls, alongside vibrant red coral. These fixed structures create a complex habitat for many species.

In certain seasons, you may also be fortunate enough to spot an ocean sunfish. The presence of dolphins in the area adds a sense of scale and excitement to the local marine ecosystem.
