Abyss Dive Center Djerba

The reefs around Amed and Tulamben are teeming with life, ranging from large pelagics to delicate reef fish. The walls and reefs are decorated with vibrant gorgonians, sea fans, and a variety of sponges (Porifera).

For those interested in macro photography, the area is a premier destination for muck diving. The sandy and silty bottoms host an incredible array of specialised creatures, including nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani), octopus (Octopus vulgaris), frogfish, pipefish, and ghost pipefish. You can also find various species of crabs, shrimps, and sea stars.

Larger residents of the area include reef sharks, such as the white-tip reef shark, and various rays (Batoidea). In the deeper sections and around the wrecks, you may encounter barracuda, moray eels (Muraenidae), and Napoleon wrasse.

The Amed coastline is naturally protected from the wind and heavy swell, which creates favourable diving conditions throughout much of the year. Most sites are easily accessible from the beach or via short boat trips.

While many sites are calm, some locations, such as the Boga wreck, can be subject to the presence of currents. Divers should always check the specific conditions for their chosen site during the morning briefing.
