Rochers Poulpe, Djerba: drift dive along a rocky canyon

Rochers Poulpe presents a drift dive that unfolds over a kilometre, following a distinct rocky structure. You begin your descent into a landscape marked by a series of boulders and ledges, creating a natural canyon effect. The bottom topography shifts between rock, sand, and patches of Posidonia seagrass, which acts as a nursery for smaller marine life. This varied terrain offers a dynamic visual experience, constantly changing as the current guides you.

As you move along the formation, you'll find numerous fissures and small tunnels carved into the rock, providing shelter and exploration opportunities. These natural hideaways are often home to the site’s namesake, octopuses, which are frequently spotted blending into their surroundings. The presence of small fishing jars, historically placed by local fishermen, serves as a testament to the abundant octopus population in these waters.

The dive profile keeps you largely between 5 and 16 metres, making it accessible while still offering enough depth to encounter various species. Light penetrates well into the shallower sections, illuminating schools of anthias that dart among the rocks. Further down, the ambient light still allows for clear observation of the rock structure and its resident creatures, maintaining comfortable conditions throughout the drift.
