Turneffe Island Resort Dive Center

Turneffe Island Resort is a private, 14-acre sanctuary situated on Little Caye Bokel within the Turneffe Atoll. It serves as a base for divers seeking an intimate connection with the Belizean reef system, away from the busier mainland hubs. The resort is deeply committed to the local ecosystem, holding Green Globe certification and participating in marine conservation through REEF and TASA ranger initiatives.

Because the resort is exclusive, you can expect a personalised approach to your diving schedule. Most days involve two to three dives, with the ability to return to the resort during your surface intervals to enjoy meals and rest. This setup is ideal for those who want to balance technical diving or exploration with the comforts of a luxury stay.

The dive centre is run by a professional team of five, including two PADI Master Instructors. This ensures a high level of expertise on-site, whether you are completing your first certification or looking for advanced training.

All instruction and communication are conducted in English. The team maintains a strong focus on environmental stewardship, particularly through lionfish hunting and catch-and-release fishing practices to protect the atoll's biodiversity.

The centre is a PADI affiliated facility, offering a complete range of courses. You can start with initial certifications and progress through to Advanced Certifications.

Whether you are looking for fundamental training or more specialised skills, the instructors are equipped to guide you through the PADI curriculum on the diverse reefs of the Turneffe Atoll.

The centre provides a full range of rental kit, including BCDs, regulators, dive computers, wetsuits, masks, snorkels, fins, and torches for night dives. A convenient valet service is available to handle the transport and cleaning of your personal equipment.

Nitrox is available for use on site. For those staying at the resort, the logistics are simplified as your surface intervals are spent back at the facility, allowing for a seamless transition between dives.

The reef systems around the atoll are home to a vast array of large pelagics and reef residents. You will regularly encounter various sharks, including Caribbean reef sharks, hammerhead sharks, and nurse sharks (Ginglymostoma cirratum). Rays (Batoidea) and eagle rays (Aetobatus) are also common visitors to the area.

In the shallower reef flats and around the structures, you will find a colourful community of fish. This includes angelfish (Pomacanthidae), queen angelfish, French angelfish, parrotfish (Calotomus), and various snappers (Lutjanus). Large groupers (Epinephelus), including the giant grouper (Epinephelus itajara), and various jacks (Carangidae) add to the biomass of the site.

The hard and soft coral architecture provides a complex habitat for smaller species. You can observe brain corals, sea fans (Gorgoniidae), sponges (Porifera), and sea pens, which support a high density of life including creole wrasse, sergeant majors, and black triggerfish.

Macro life and smaller crustaceans are abundant throughout the reef. Keep an eye out for spiny lobster (Palinuridae), moray eels (Muraenidae), and various species of wrasse (Labridae), alongside anemones and basket stars that inhabit the crevices of the reef.
