Thatch Caye Resort is a small all-inclusive resort on a private island off the coast of Dangriga, Belize. The island is about a mile long, with white-sand beaches, lush vegetation and accommodation spread between overwater bungalows and oceanfront cabanas. It is the sort of place where the timetable quickly loses its authority, although the boat transfer and meal times still have a say in proceedings.

The resort welcomes up to 30 guests at a time, giving the place a deliberately small-scale character. There are three named bar spaces: the Overwater Starfish Bar, the Starfish Bar and the full bar at Coco Lounge. The overwater bar is the sunset option, while the Starfish Bar serves happy hour from 4.00pm to 7.00pm with cocktails and light afternoon bites such as ceviche, nachos and hummus. A packed lunch is available for days spent away from the table.

The Natural Saltwater Pool is a lagoon-style pool with clear water and a water swing. It is made for a short, cool dip rather than a serious training session, although there is also direct access to the beach when you want a longer view and fewer walls. Loungers sit on the sand, and the island offers kayaks, paddleboards, snorkelling and other water-based activities for time spent above the surface.

For a slower afternoon, Serenity Point has a yoga and fitness platform, and massages are available beside the sea. Bicycle hire, fishing and fly-fishing trips give you something more purposeful to do, while local culture tours and mainland excursions can be arranged through the resort. Stargazer's Cruises, the Sittee River Boat Tour and trips to nearby cays are among the options, with wildlife and island scenery replacing the usual shopping-centre itinerary.

There is also a games room with board games, volleyball, table tennis and corn hole. Evening entertainment includes karaoke at Coco Lounge. Arrival is by boat from Dangriga, with a return transfer between Dangriga Airport and the resort included in the all-inclusive arrangement. Dangriga Airport is the closest airport at 9 miles from the property. You will need to tell the resort your expected arrival time, as the island transfer is part of the logistics rather than something to improvise after landing.

Check-in runs from 3.00pm to 6.00pm, and check-out from 7.00am to 10.00am. A photo ID and credit card are required at check-in. Cash is accepted as a payment method, and pets are not allowed. Children of all ages are welcome, with a specific family arrangement for children under 12 in the Premier Oceanfront Cabanas.
