The Emerald Grande

The Emerald Coast is not being hidden behind a long transfer here; the airport, harbour and beach all sit close to the door.

The dress code is casual, which is welcome after a day in a wetsuit. The hotel does not list an all-inclusive or half-board formula, so the arrangement is best understood as accommodation with separate places to eat rather than a fixed dining package.

There is one hotel bar, The Lobby Bar, in the entrance hall, with cocktails and other drinks. Room service runs around the clock, giving you another way to deal with a late return or an evening when leaving the apartment feels like unnecessary exercise.

The main outdoor pool is the obvious place to trade fins for a few lengths, or simply sit in the water and let your legs remember that they have another job besides carrying dive kit. It has an integrated bar, so the transition from swim to drink requires very little planning. The hot tub adds a warmer option when you would rather sit still than swim.

The private beach is directly accessible from the complex, with white sand, loungers and parasols. It works well for a partner who wants a beach day while you are out diving, and equally well for an afternoon when neither of you has the energy for anything more ambitious than sun, shade and the sound of the Gulf.

There is also a fully equipped gym for anyone who still has enthusiasm left after the water. For slower afternoons, the nearby harbour boardwalk, museums and local parks give you somewhere to wander without turning the day into a major excursion.

Check-in runs from 4pm to 11pm. You need photo identification and a credit card on arrival, and the property asks you to provide your arrival time in advance. Check-out is available around the clock, which gives early departures and late travel days a little more flexibility.
