Portsmouth sits in the north of Dominica, with Kootney Resort positioned close enough to the town's everyday services and the island's northern diving connections. Purple Turtle Beach is about 2.2 miles away by car, roughly a four-minute drive. That puts the sea within easy reach, but the resort itself is best understood as a garden property rather than a beach hotel.

You can reach Rosie's Bar in about 0.7 miles on foot, with the walk taking around fourteen minutes, while Rituals is about 0.4 miles away by car and Poker Deck about 0.7 miles. The surrounding choice is modest but useful when you want a drink or a change from cooking. The resort also places you within reach of local outings: Cabrits Fort Shirley is about 3 miles north, while the Indian River offers trips by boat to Cobra's restaurant and bar.

Douglas-Charles Airport is about 21 miles away by road, a journey of roughly thirty-seven minutes. Canefield Airport is about 23 miles away by road and around thirty-six minutes by car; Roseau, the capital, is about an hour's drive to the south.

The cottages are designed for living in, not merely sleeping between excursions.
