Mountain Point, Peter Island: Caves and Arches of the BVI

Mountain Point, located on the northeast side of Peter Island, presents a series of distinct dive environments. The area is marked by three separate moorings, each offering a unique exploration. As you descend, the underwater topography shifts from exposed reef to intricate formations, a common feature along these more sheltered northern fringes of the island.

Closer to the shoreline, the profile transitions into a captivating landscape of grottos and arches, sculpted directly into the coral substrate. This section, with its maximum depth of 12 metres, invites close inspection of the formations. These natural tunnels and overhangs provide shelter and hunting grounds for various reef species, creating a dynamic environment even in shallower water.

The character of Mountain Point is defined by these eroded coral heads, which form an ever-changing labyrinth. Moving through an archway or into a grotto provides a tangible sense of exploration, where the light plays differently through the openings and across the coral. While the specific current flow at Mountain Point can be site-dependent, this area of the British Virgin Islands is known for variable conditions.
