Passe Sada - Côté Nord, N'Gouja: Wall Diving in Mayotte

Passe Sada - Côté Nord is an advanced dive, taking you to the outer edge of a significant pass, approximately 15 kilometers from N'Gouja. The dive profile here is dominated by an extensive wall that plunges dramatically, starting from shallower sunlit zones and extending down to 55 meters. As you descend along this initial drop-off, the play of light transforms, illuminating the vibrant life clinging to the vertical surfaces.

Between 15 and 25 meters, the wall presents a series of overhangs, natural shelters that are home to a diverse population of moray eels. These shadowy ledges also host numerous cleaning shrimp, diligently tending to the reef's inhabitants. Large schools of fusilier fish are a common sight in this mid-depth range, their iridescent scales flashing as they move synchronously through the blue water, adding a dynamic layer to the reef's ecosystem.

Reaching the maximum depth of 55 meters reveals a landscape starkly different from the upper reef. Here, colossal blocks form an intricate labyrinth, creating hidden passages and sheltered nooks. Adorning these ancient structures are magnificent gorgonian corals, some reaching an impressive two meters in span, their delicate, net-like structures swaying gently in the subtle currents, creating a truly memorable deep-water tableau.

Turning towards the lagoon, the wall transitions, forming a small, sheltered bay. This inward-facing section begins with a vertical drop to 20 meters, before giving way to a more gradual, inclined slope that continues its descent to 50 meters. At the base of the initial vertical section, small cavities dot the reef, offering glimpses of various shrimp species hidden among the corals, often sharing their space with schools of soldier fish.

The bay culminates in a productive point, teeming with fish life, which then opens onto a secondary drop-off. This second wall descends from 5 meters down to 40 meters, maintaining the dramatic verticality characteristic of Passe Sada. Similar to the initial descent, this section also features a series of overhangs and a continuation of the large gorgonians that are a signature of this deep-water environment.
