Bleu Marine Reunion

Located in the heart of Saint-Gilles-les-Bains, Bleu Marine Réunion serves as a gateway to the diverse marine ecosystems of the Indian Ocean. Since its founding in 1995, the centre has built a reputation for professional, safety-conscious diving, operating from a well-equipped local in the Saint-Gilles marina with direct access to the boats.

Whether you are looking to explore the intricate swim-throughs of a reef flat or the haunting silhouette of a sunken vessel, the centre's location provides easy access to the best of the island's western coastline.

The team at Bleu Marine is composed of certified instructors and experienced divers who focus on both technical skill and environmental stewardship. They operate under the FFESSM affiliation, providing a structured and recognised framework for all training and exploration dives.

Instruction is delivered with an emphasis on ecology, encouraging divers to become active participants in the preservation of the local marine environment. The centre is also equipped to handle various levels of experience, from children's introductory dives to advanced exploration for seasoned divers.

Bleu Marine offers a complete progression of training through the FFESSM system. This includes everything from initial introductory dives and Niveau 1 through to the advanced Niveau 4 certifications.

For divers looking to specialise, the centre provides Nitrox training and RIFAP. The curriculum is designed to take a diver from their very first breath underwater through to highly competent reef and deep-water exploration.

The centre's shore-based facilities include a covered terrace with direct access to the dive boats, alongside essential amenities such as showers and toilets. For those needing to rent equipment, a full range of high-end kit from Aqualung is available.

Nitrox is available for divers looking to extend their bottom time on deeper sites. The centre also provides essential rental items such as masks, snorkels, and fins to complement the full kit hire service.

The reefs are teeming with life, from large pelagics to colourful reef residents. You will regularly encounter sea turtles, barracuda, and various species of snapper and grouper. Schools of tuna and Napoleon wrasse are common sights, alongside stingrays and various species of rays patrolling the sandy patches.

Macro life is a particular highlight for those who enjoy searching the crevices and corals. The sites are home to a diverse array of nudibranchs, moray eels, and various crustaceans, including spiny lobster. Look closely to find frogfish, stonefish, and the delicate forms of ghost pipefish and leaf fish.

The coral architecture provides a home for an incredible variety of smaller inhabitants, such as clownfish and anemones. You may also spot various species of pufferfish, triggerfish, and colourful parrotfish amongst the reef structures.

During the months of June to October, the waters may bring sightings of humpback whales, adding a seasonal highlight to the local marine life.

Diving in the area is influenced by local currents, which can range from calm to moderate or even strong at certain sites like the Roches Merveilleuses. These currents can make certain deep-water reefs more challenging and better suited for experienced divers.

The seabed varies from shallow reef flats and sandy areas to steep walls and deep canyons, requiring divers to be mindful of their buoyancy and positioning, particularly during drift dives or when exploring wrecks.
