Diving Club

Diving Club has been operating in Trincomalee since 2010, providing a reliable base for divers looking to explore the eastern coast of Sri Lanka. Formerly known as Sea World Diving Center, the centre is led by J Rockshan and has built a reputation for local expertise over the last 15 years.

Situated at Sandy Cove, the centre is ideally positioned to access the diverse marine environments of the region. Whether you are looking to complete your first certification or are an experienced diver seeking wreck penetrations, the operation is geared towards small, manageable groups.

The team is led by instructor J Rockshan, bringing over a decade and a half of local knowledge to every trip. The centre operates with a strict ratio of maximum five divers per guide, ensuring that instruction and supervision remain focused and safe.

All instruction and communication are conducted in English. The centre is a PADI affiliated facility, making it a straightforward choice for those looking to follow a standardised global training curriculum.

The centre provides a comprehensive PADI course catalogue. For those new to the water, training begins with Discover Scuba Diving, Scuba Diver, and the Open Water Diver course.

Continuing divers can progress through Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver, and eventually to Divemaster level. Specialty training is also available, including PADI Deep Diver Specialty, Peak Performance Buoyancy, and Underwater Photography.

A full range of equipment is available for hire, allowing you to travel light if you prefer. This includes essential kit such as regulators, BCDs, and wetsuits.

The centre is equipped to handle night dives, providing the necessary kit for exploring the reefs after dark.

The reefs are teeming with life, including various species of tropical fish, Angelfish (Pomacanthidae), Clownfish (Amphiprion), and Snappers (Lutjanidae). You will regularly encounter turtles, parrotfish, and Moorish idol (Zanclus cornutus) navigating the coral structures.

Larger pelagics are a highlight of the area, with Blacktip reef shark sightings common. You may also encounter dolphins and, depending on the season, whale sharks.

For those with an eye for detail, the macro life is diverse. Look for Octopus (Octopoda), Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani), and various species of Moray eel (Muraenidae), including giant moray eels. Other interesting residents include Lionfish (Pterois volitans), Porcupinefish (Diodon), and Sweetlips (Plectorhinchus).

June is noted as the best month for light conditions. The area offers a variety of environments ranging from shallow reef flats to deeper wreck sites.
