Diving nest

The centre operates as both a PADI dive centre and a seaside hostel, making it a practical base for those looking to combine training with a stay on the coast. Whether you are arriving for a single course or a longer stay, the proximity to the water defines the experience here.

Diving Nest provides a complete pathway of PADI training. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving or the PADI Open Water Diver course, while those looking to progress can enrol in Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, and eventually the professional Divemaster level.

The centre provides on-site accommodation that includes mixed and female-only dormitories, as well as private air-conditioned rooms with views of the ocean. This setup allows you to transition easily from your room to the dive site.

For those who prefer to use their own equipment, the centre offers various rental options, including wetsuits, fins, and masks to ensure you have the necessary kit for the local conditions.

The reefs around Trincomalee are home to a variety of large marine species. You will regularly encounter blacktip reef sharks and sea turtles navigating the coral structures. The area is also known for various reef fish, including snapper (Lutjanidae), parrotfish, and angelfish (Pomacanthidae).

As you explore the gardens, look for more specialised residents like the Moorish idol (Zanclus cornutus), lionfish (Pterois volitans), and various species of grouper (Epinephelinae). You may also spot sweetlips (Plectorhinchus) or barracuda (Sphyraena) patrolling the reef edges.

For those with an eye for detail, the macro life is diverse. Keep a lookout for nudibranchs, octopus (Octopoda), and various species of eel (Anguilliformes), including giant moray eels. Smaller creatures like clownfish (Amphiprion) and porcupinefish (Diodon) add colour to the crevices of the reef.

In certain seasons, the area offers the chance to see much larger pelagics. Blue whales and sperm whales are known to visit the region, providing rare opportunities for sightings.
