Trinco Bay Dive Center , PADI 5 Star Dive Resort

Trincomalee Bay Dive Center has been operating in Sri Lanka since 2013. Situated in the Trincomalee region, the centre provides a base for exploring the local marine national park and the surrounding waters.

The centre was founded by Thaminda K. Kumara, an IDC staff instructor with two decades of experience in the diving industry. This long-standing expertise forms the foundation of the resort's reputation for professional standards and safety.

The centre holds a PADI 5 Star Dive Resort affiliation. The team is highly professional and capable of conducting instruction in several languages, including English, German, Chinese, French, and Italian.

Training is supported by a dedicated on-site training pool. This allows you to practice your skills and master buoyancy in a controlled environment before you ever step onto a boat for your first open water dive.

A complete range of PADI training is available on-site. This includes entry-level programmes such as Discover Scuba Diving, Scuba Diver, and Open Water Diver, as well as Advanced Open Water Diver.

For those looking to progress further in their diving career, the centre offers Rescue Diver and Divemaster courses. The curriculum also includes the Emergency First Response programme to ensure a high standard of safety and first aid knowledge.

The centre operates a fleet of six modern boats, all of which are maintained to meet safety standards. These vessels serve as the primary platform for reef dives and excursions to the nearby marine park.

In addition to standard diving trips, the fleet is used for whale watching excursions. Transport and snacks are included as part of the diving course packages.

The centre provides modern rental kit from reputable brands including Scubapro, Cressi, Mares, and Aqualung. For those enrolled in courses, this equipment is included as part of the training package.

On-site facilities are designed to support a smooth transition from the boat back to the resort, with accommodation options ranging from air-conditioned private rooms to hostel-style dormitories.

The reefs are home to a variety of larger marine species, including whales, dolphins, and various rays such as the Southern stingray (Hypanus americanus), blue spotted stingrays, and giant rays. You will also encounter many species of reef fish, including Angelfish (Pomacanthidae), Snappers (Lutjanidae), and Moorish idol (Zanclus cornutus).

In the crevices and under ledges, you can find Moray eel (Muraenidae), particularly giant moray eels, alongside Scorpionfish, pufferfish, and various species of grouper. Barracuda (Sphyraena) and sweetlips (Plectorhinchus) are also frequently seen patrolling the area.

For those interested in macro life, the environment supports Octopus (Octopoda), nudibranchs, and various small creatures. You may also spot lionfish (Pterois volitans) and other interesting reef inhabitants amongst the coral and sea anemones (Actiniaria).

The local waters maintain a consistent temperature of 27°C. The region is well-suited for diving, with the marine park providing accessible reef environments for a wide range of divers.
