Small, family-run and set in the historic centre of Vis, Hotel San Giorgio suits you if you prefer a proper island address to a large resort with identical corridors and a timetable for everything. The building sits among palm, lemon and orange trees, with works of art spread through the hotel and a modern but cosy style in the rooms and suites.

The mood is well suited to a two-person trip, particularly if your ideal evening involves a shower, a drink, dinner built around the sea and a slow walk through the old town. For a change of scene, the historic sites of Sv. Magdalena, Issa and Sv. Kuzma i Damjan are within walking distance, while several restaurants are close to the hotel itself.

Vis Airport is not the arrival point for most international visitors: Split Airport is the relevant airport listed for the property, around 51 miles away by road. The journey also involves the island crossing, so this is the sort of stay where arranging the final connection matters more than pretending the airport is just around the corner.

For two people, the double rooms keep things straightforward: a king-size bed, air conditioning, a private bathroom with shower, wardrobe space and the usual practical places to put your clothes. The Deluxe Double Room gives you more room than the Standard Double Room, while the Junior Suite is the more natural choice if you want a little extra space around the bed and desk.

The Superior Suite is the one to consider for three people, with a king-size bed and a single bed. That makes it the sensible option when a third diver is joining the trip, although it is still worth remembering that cots and extra beds are not available. Children over 12 are welcome.

Air conditioning is useful when you return warm, salty and ready to stop being functional for a while. A minibar, coffee machine and electric kettle cover the immediate need for something cold or caffeinated, while daily housekeeping keeps the room from turning into a staging area for every item you own. If you want to move without committing to a full day out, bicycles can be rented and cycling is available. Walking tours are offered, and hiking takes place off-site, giving you ways to see more of Vis beyond the waterfront and the route back to your room. The island's vineyards, villages, Roman remains, caves and beaches provide the broader backdrop for those excursions.

For a quieter evening, the hotel has board games and puzzles. It is not a complicated entertainment plan, which may be precisely the point: garden, terrace, dinner and a book can be a perfectly respectable schedule when your logbook has already done the heavy lifting.

Check-in runs from 2pm to midnight, and check-out is from 8am to 10.30am. You need photo identification and a credit card at check-in, and the hotel asks you to share your expected arrival time. Guests under 18 can check in only with a parent or official guardian.
