MUSAN, Ayia Napa: diving Cyprus' underwater sculpture forest

Descend into MUSAN and you immediately enter a unique underwater forest, the first of its kind. The site, opened in 2021, spreads across a sandy bottom south of Pernera beach, offering an expanse of art that blends with projected marine habitat. The sculptures, crafted from inert, pH-neutral materials, are designed to evolve into a thriving artificial reef, enhancing the biodiversity of the area. The layout extends over 170 metres, with large organic structures reaching heights greater than eight metres. As you navigate the site, you'll find figurative sculptures intertwining with these tree-like installations, all inspired by Cypriot heritage. The collection includes 93 distinct artworks, merging the concept of a cultural museum with an ecological initiative. The sculptures are placed in a sandy zone approximately 200 metres from shore, creating an accessible dive for various experience levels.
