Acrotel Athena Pallas & Residence is a large seaside resort with 356 rooms, a private beach and enough on-site life to keep a non-diving day from turning into a logistical exercise.

The tone is polished rather than minimalist. You have restaurants, bars, a spa, pools, evening entertainment and family facilities all within the resort, while the beach is close enough to make a short walk part of the day rather than an excursion. Couples can settle into the dining and spa side of the place; families have a kids’ club for children aged 4 to 12, a children’s pool and indoor and outdoor play areas.

The hotel is in Elia, in northern Greece, on the coast and about 50 metres from the sea. Its private beach has golden sand, sun loungers, parasols and a beach bar. That is the useful geography here: from your room to the water is a walk measured in minutes, not a transfer organised around somebody else’s timetable.

Neos Marmaras is about 5 miles away and Nikiti about 7 miles, giving you two nearby places to head for when you want a change of scene. Several beaches sit within reach by car, including Spathies Beach at about 0.8 miles and Kalogria Beach at about 1.9 miles. Thessaloniki Airport is about 57 miles away by road, and the hotel can arrange an airport shuttle.

The surrounding area also gives you a few reasons to leave the resort: historic sites lie around 5 to 6 miles away, while nearby restaurants and seaside bars are generally several miles from the hotel. In other words, this is a self-contained coastal base rather than a property in the middle of a town.

The room choice matters here because the resort covers several ways of travelling. A Junior Suite suits a couple who want more breathing room than a standard room without moving into family territory. For four guests, the Armonia Suite or Grand Suite gives you a more workable base, while the maisonette options make more sense when a family wants extra space and direct pool access.

Air conditioning matters after a hot day outdoors, and every room has it. You also have a minibar, satellite television, a coffee machine and an electric kettle, so cold drinks and a proper cup of tea do not depend entirely on the next bar opening. A seating area and sofa give you somewhere to sit that is not the edge of the bed, a small detail that becomes less small when you are tired.

Bathrooms are private and include a shower, towels, slippers, bathrobe, hairdryer and toiletries. Daily housekeeping keeps the practical side moving, while room service operates around the clock. Free Wi-Fi covers the hotel, useful for checking the next day’s plans or sending the obligatory photograph proving that you have, in fact, left the dive centre.

Half-board gives the stay a clear rhythm: breakfast and dinner are covered by the formula, while lunch is available at the Palladium Restaurant. Breakfast is a buffet with continental, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free choices, served at the Athena Restaurant from 07:00. That is early enough for a sensible start, although the timetable does not promise a special diver’s breakfast or a packed lunch.

The Athena Restaurant serves international food indoors, in air-conditioned surroundings, for breakfast and dinner. The Palladium works differently, with Mediterranean dishes on a terrace at lunchtime and in the evening. Breakfast runs from 07:00 to 10:00; lunch is served from 12:30 to 15:00, and dinner from 19:00 to 22:00. Smart casual applies at the Athena, while the Palladium is more relaxed.

There are two named bars. Apollo Bar is the lobby stop for cocktails and drinks; Poseidon Pool Bar keeps the poolside version going with cocktails, snacks and drinks. A snack bar and minibar add useful fallbacks, and room service runs 24 hours. The wider resort also has five themed restaurants in its dining programme, including Hierion, whose concept draws on the refectories of Athonian monasteries.

The Main Pool is an outdoor pool with a swim-up bar, which is a perfectly respectable place to spend an afternoon doing very little. There is also a separate children’s pool, and pool and beach towels are available. At the private beach, sun loungers and parasols remove the usual argument about whether carrying your own chair counts as exercise.

The Athena Spa covers the useful end of post-dive recovery: massages, facial treatments, sauna and jacuzzi, with additional steam-room, body-treatment, manicure and pedicure options. The spa also has a relaxation area, while the fitness centre and yoga classes are there if your idea of recovery involves moving deliberately rather than lying horizontally. Spa products are cruelty-free and vegan.

Away from the water and treatment rooms, you can use the tennis court, bowling, table tennis, billiards, games room and mini golf. Kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkelling, jet skiing and boat excursions are available for another look at the coast, while cycling and hiking offer a change of pace on land. Live music and shows take place several times a week, and the hotel organises cultural excursions including Athens and Sounion. For families, the kids’ club, children’s activities, babysitting and children’s menu make the resort easier to share across generations.

You can arrive by car and use free private parking on site, with no reservation needed. Car hire is available through the hotel, and an airport shuttle can be arranged as a paid service. The nearest listed airport is Thessaloniki Airport, about 57 miles away by road, so this is not a quick hop from the terminal; arranging the onward journey before travel is sensible.

Check-in starts at 15:00 and check-out is by 11:00. You need photo identification and a payment card at arrival, and the hotel needs your expected arrival time in advance. Luggage storage, a 24-hour reception, concierge service, tour desk and express check-in and check-out cover the awkward edges of travel days.

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel. You also have an on-site cash machine, a safe at reception, laundry and dry-cleaning services, a minimarket, room service and five meeting rooms.
